Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines has launched The Great Winter Seat Sale with return flights from London Heathrow to Taipei in Taiwan from just £469, while flights to Manila start from £549 inclusive of taxes. Book on www.philippineairlines.com before 31 January 2018 and travel on dates throughout 2018* to enjoy great value fares to destinations across the Far East.

All daily flights on the airline's new B777-300ER from London Heathrow fly via the flag carrier's capital, Manila, which is both a fascinating destination in itself as well as providing a gateway to Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The new aircraft substantially enhances the passenger travel experience with Business Class seats adjusting into fully flat beds, while in economy, passengers can enjoy touch-screen personal TVs and built-in USB ports to enjoy in-flight entertainment throughout their flight.

For a long-haul break with a difference, Taiwan offers both a tropical and sub-tropical getaway with spectacular natural scenery, an eclectic food scene, ancient temples and fascinating nature. The cherry blossom season begins in March, while from late spring, the waters around the island can display 'blue tears' or bioluminescence, as algae emits a surreal blue glow when waves or paddles disturb it. A deluxe room for two at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei starts from £213 per night. www.shangri-la.com/taipei/fareasternplazashangrila/

Budget travellers looking for white-hot sandy beaches have an embarrassment of riches from the Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands. Party-lovers can head to Boracay, an island with a 5km long stretch of sandy beach finged with coconut palms and crystal clear waters, where the cost of living is often cheaper than Thailand. Here, half a litre of beer costs just 74p, while a three-course meal for two in a mid-range restaurant will cost just £30.

The five star Crimson Resort & Spa on the island is due to open its doors in April 2018 and guests will be able to use the hotel's own boat to transfer direct from the island's airport to check-in. Prices for a deluxe double room per night, based on two sharing start at £209 including breakfast and nightly cocktails for two at Azure Beach Club, www.crimsonhotel.com/boracay
