The U.S. Open in Merion is sold out, but visitors to Philadelphia and locals alike can still get in on the excitement of the Championships, which is expected to generate up to $100 million in economic impact for the region.
• Fans are encouraged to find local restaurants, bars and attractions offering deals and specials on Twitter, using the hashtag #USOpeninPHL as the tournament gets underway.
• Caught a glimpse of Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy? Attending a lawn party in Merion? Fans are encouraged to tag U.S. Open player sightings and golf parties on Twitter with the hashtag #USOpeninPHL
• For visitors in town, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (@discoverPHL) will give updates on weather and schedule changes that might affect the tournament using the hashtag #USOpeninPHL
• On June 15 and 16, check out The U.S. Open Experience On Independence Mall, with live big-screen golf coverage, authentic USGA bleacher seating, and simulated playing opportunities where fans can create their own memorable golf shots. Weekend hours of operation are from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. both days. The Philadelphia Sports Congress (PHLSports), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, seeks to attract major sporting events and conventions to the Philadelphia area. The Sports Congress, working in conjunction with the City of Philadelphia, the city's professional teams and universities, has attracted many events to the city and is currently working on bids for future sporting events.
