Venetian Macao Platinum Sponsor for 2013 Residency and Fortieth Anniversary Tour of China

                                                               

(Macao, June 9, 2013) - A trio representing The Philadelphia Orchestra performed a short concert Sunday afternoon at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, part of the renowned orchestra's series of Macao events, which included full-orchestra concerts Saturday and Sunday night at the Venetian Theatre, sponsored by Hennessy. The free performance at the Dom Pedro V Theatre was made possible as a result of the platinum-tiered sponsorship of The Venetian® Macao for the Orchestra's residency and commemorative tour of China, and was supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government.

First violinist Richard Amoroso was joined by Glenn Fischbach on cello and Burchard Tang on the viola for the Sunday afternoon performance. The selection played included excerpts from the following pieces: Serenade in C Major, Op. 10 by Ernő Dohnányi; Eight Pieces, Op. 39 by Reinhold Glière; Passacaglia for Violin and Viola by Johan Halvorsen; Intermezzo for String Trio by Zoltán Kodály; and String Trio No. 2 in G Major, Op. 9, No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The appreciative audience filled the theatre with several rounds of applause throughout the performance.

 

The afternoon performance was free and open to the general public, with an especial effort made to invite teachers and students from the Macao Conservatory School of Music and musicians from the Macao Orchestra.

 

About the performers:

Violinist Richard Amoroso joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1998 after serving as a member of Concerto Soloists (now Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia), Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, and as a substitute violinist with the Orchestra.  He has performed as soloist with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, the North Penn Symphony, and in a trio recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. He returned to Carnegie in 2004 to perform a solo recital.

Glenn Fischbach, cello, is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Orlando Cole and William Stokking. He performs regularly as a substitute musician with The Philadelphia Orchestra and is on the faculty of Temple University's Music Preparatory Division. He is a member of the Belmonte Trio with his wife, violinist Jennifer K. Lee, and pianist Robert Durso.

 

A native of Maryland, Burchard Tang joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in September 1999. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 1999 from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Joseph de Pasquale, retired Philadelphia Orchestra principal viola, and Choong-Jin Chang, the Orchestra's current principal viola. Tang has served as principal viola with the Curtis Symphony and the New York String Seminar, and has performed with the Brandenburg Ensemble.
