The Bradenton Area is thrilled to announce the arrival of the highly anticipated World Champions Cup, a new global team competition, taking place from December 7th to 10th, 2023. The prestigious event will see teams from the UK, USA and 'Team International' hosted at the renowned Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, showcasing the city's rich golfing heritage and vibrant community.
Named “Best New Private Course” by Golf Digest during its opening year in 2006, The Concession was designed in honour of the 1969 Ryder Cup, where Jack Nicklaus conceded a putt to Tony Jacklin. That gesture, known as “the concession,” rendered the two teams in a tie – the first in Ryder Cup history – and became known as one of the greatest acts of sportsmanship ever. Nicklaus and Jacklin teamed to design The Concession, home to some of the best golf in Florida.
In addition to the World Champions Cup, The Bradenton Area boasts a thriving golfing community and a picturesque setting that perfectly complements the sport. Known for its pristine fairways, idyllic weather, and breath taking natural beauty, Bradenton offers an exceptional golfing experience for players of all skill levels. The city's colourful culture, powder-soft sandy beaches, toes-in-the-sand dinning, and world-class amenities make it an ideal destination for both golf enthusiasts and leisure travellers.
The World Champions Cup marks a significant addition to the PGA Tour's calendar, as it introduces a thrilling team-based format that is sure to captivate golf enthusiasts worldwide. With the PGA Tour's official sanction, this ground-breaking event will bring together the best golfers from around the globe, who will compete in the spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and fierce competition.
The World Champions Cup will feature three prominent captains leading their respective teams. Darren Clarke, the esteemed golfing icon, will guide Team Europe, while the legendary Ernie Els will helm Team International. The esteemed Jim Furyk will captain Team USA, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Additionally, the event will be under the guidance of Chairman Peter Jacobsen, a highly respected figure in the world of professional golf.
