Perth - Transformation of the Swan

Tourism Western Australia

Nestled between the sparkling Swan River and Kings Park & Botanic Garden - one of the largest inner city parks in the world - Perth is experiencing incredible economic and social growth.

New bars, restaurants, retail outlets and cultural spaces are popping up in all corners of Australia's sunniest city and its neighbouring precincts of Leederville, Mount Lawley, Northbridge and Subiaco; as well as the historic port city of Fremantle.

Due to open in the next six months are four new hotels that will increase capacity and provide new accommodation options for visitors: The Terrace Hotel (15 suites), Fraser Suites Perth (236 rooms), the Quincy Boutique Hotel (58 rooms), and the conversion of Citigate Perth to a Four Points by Sheraton Perth.

Intercontinental Perth Burswood attending ATE has completed phase one of its transformation to a Crown property. Changing its name to Crown Metropol Perth later this month, the hotel offers stylish new recreation and relaxation areas, including an indoor pool, a main outdoor resort-style pool and kids pool - all complemented by luxurious sun lounges, day beds and a bar and grill. Refurbishments to follow include a complete refresh of floor foyers, guest rooms, suites and lobby areas. www.burswood.com.au

As of June 20, the Crown Metropol Perth will be part of Crown Perth, formally the Burswood Entertainment Complex, which has recently welcomed several new restaurants, including the acclaimed Nobu; and luxury day spa ISIKA.

Also attending ATE, the Duxton Hotel Perth www.perth.duxtonhotels.com has undergone a complete refurbishment and Perth's leading luxury boutique hotel, The Richardson, will open their new all day dining experience - Café - this month. www.therichardson.com.au

Across Perth construction of new public infrastructure is underway, which will functionally and aesthetically transform the city - creating a more vibrant business and social hub.

The $440 million Perth Waterfront project is one of the largest projects on the city's construction calendar. Connecting the Swan River to Perth's central business district (CBD), visitors and locals will enjoy new restaurants and hotels, and an Indigenous cultural centre.

Perth's new entertainment, music and sporting venue - Perth Arena - will open on 10 November this year. A multipurpose facility suitable for concerts of 15,500 people, Perth Arena will also be the home of international tennis tournament, the Hopman Cup.

Visitors to Perth will also benefit from the $750 million redevelopment of Perth Airport. Already underway, this first stage will see a new domestic terminal, expansion of arrivals and departures areas, and a redesign of the airport's external areas. The end goal of the redevelopment is to have all air services in Perth operating from one location within the next 10 years.
