Perth's latest luxury hotel opens in October
Perth welcomes another new hotel next month when COMO The Treasury opens its doors on 15 October in the city centre. Set in the 140 year old State Buildings, there are 48 rooms featuring high ceilings, original columns and balconies with city views as well as offering a complimentary in-room bar, chauffeur and butler services. The luxury property, which once housed the State Treasury and Cabinet rooms, includes a pool, yoga studio, and spa offering holistic therapies. There will also be two restaurants; a bistro and Wildflower, a rooftop restaurant housed in a streel-framed glass box overlooking the city. West Australian chef Jed Gerrad will serve contemporary cuisine revolving around the indigenous ethos of six seasons and using the finest Western Australian produce. This is COMO Hotels and Resorts first property in Australia and fifth urban hotel, with two properties in London as well as Bangkok and Miami. The hotel is part of a significant transformation of Cathedral Square in Perth's historic heart. Rooms start from $595 (£270) including breakfast. www.comohotels.com/thetreasury
This is the latest of a series of innovative openings in Perth's historic buildings. Earlier this year, the Alex in Northbridge transformed a former bank into a 74-room neighbourhood hotel with rooftop terrace, homely communal spaces and a strong focus on local food and wine (rooms from $190 (£86) per night B&B www.alexhotel.com.au) and the five-star Terrace offers 15 suites in a former Bishop's residence in the city's West End, (rooms from at $269 per night (£122) www.terracehotelperth.com.au). While at the budget end of the scale the newly opened Fremantle Prison YHA allows guests the rare opportunity to sleep in World Heritage-listed building. This one-of-a-kind hostel was originally the women's division of the World Heritage-listed Fremantle Prison. (Prices from $29 (£13) pp pn in a shared room www.yha.com.au) Close by, the Hougoumont Hotel cleverly combines shipping containers with the colonial frontage of a 19th Century Hotel to provide affordable luxury that wouldn't look out of place in Shoreditch. Rooms start from $199 (£107). www.hougoumonthotel.com
