Perisher Blue supports Disabled

Perisher

Perisher Blue is pleased to be continuing their support of Disabled WinterSport Australia for the 2006 ski season!

Smiggin Holes, one of Perisher Blues four resort areas has this month hosted three of five disabled winter sport camps for the season.

A total of thirty disabled athletes and twenty volunteer guides will visit the resort this month for the camps. Athletes are travelling from around Australia, with three of the five camps made up of groups from Queensland and one group from Manly in NSW. Paul Gardner, Program Manager of Disabled WinterSport Australia believes the main goal of the visit this year has already been achieved. We wanted to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to enjoy winter sports with fellow skiers and to appreciate the beautiful surroundings that Perisher Blue has to offer, he said. The camps so far have been a huge success.

The volunteer guides from Disabled WinterSport Australia assist with a range of responsibilities, including taking the athletes out on the slopes in sit-skis, devices designed specifically to allow people with disabilities to ride the slopes.

There is no age limit for the visiting athletes and there this a range of special needs. Yesterday one visually impaired skier took to the slopes at Smiggin Holes with the help of a guide.

Gary Grant, General Manager of Marketing and Hospitality at Perisher Blue says the resort has had a long term relationship with Disabled Winter Sport Australia and is very pleased to be supporting the camps this year. We look forward to continuing a great relationship with them in seasons ahead.
