Perisher Blues PSP Super Pipe Unveiled This Week

Perisher

The greatly anticipated Perisher Blue Super Pipe, sponsored by PlayStation Portable, has been completed in time for this weeks Coca Cola Wild Winter Weekend event.

Perisher Blue has made some improvements to the Pipe in 2005. The Super Pipe is even bigger and better than last year, thanks to our terrain park specific groomer and new park maintenance tools, says Adam Galbraith who operates Perisher Blues Snow Turbo Half Pipe Grinder. Adam has been building and shaping half pipes in Australia and North America for 19 consecutive seasons.

The PSP Super Pipe takes approximately 110 man-hours to complete and requires 9000 cubic metres of snow. This years pipe will be 15.84 metres wide and 95 metres long.

The Super Pipe was considered a hit with skiers and snowboarders last year, inviting praise from industry magazines and professional athletes across the country. In a letter to Australian Snowboarder Magazine, Andrew Burton a member of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia Halfpipe Team, thanked Perisher Blue: for last years effort in building and maintaining, hands down, the best halfpipe Australia has ever seen.

According to Andrew Burton, It is vital that, this close to the Olympics, there is a pipe of a similar standard to the one we will be competing in over there. It is fantastic that Perisher Blue is committed to doing this. It is the only resort in Australia to provide such a great training facility.

During the Australian winter season, Andrew trains exclusively at Perisher Blue, as do the rest of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia Halfpipe Team members.

Perisher Blues freestyle skiing and boarding terrain already includes the Vortex Rail Park in Centre Valley, and the Columbia Fun Park on Mt Piper. Still to come this season is the PSP Super Park in Blue Cow, which will provide large jumps for more experienced skiers and riders.

Perisher Blue will host an assortment of freestyle competitions this season, including: The Wild Winter Weekend, July 28th 31st The Billabong Freeway Tour Perisher Pipe Cup, August 14th NSW Junior Pro Snowboard Halfpipe Series, August 26th 28th The PlayStation 2 Dual X Rails Challenge, August 26th 28th The Fructis Australian Open, Presented by Burton, September 3rd 4th Boost Mobiles King of the Rails, Presented by Motorola, September 9th 10th
