Perisher Blue Celebrates as the Snow Starts to Fall

Perisher

Perisher Blue kick started the 2005 snow season with a huge range of activities. From busking and indigenous dancing, to face painting and the traditional blessing of the snow, there was something for everyone.

The Perisher Blue Celebration of Winter began on Friday the 10th of June and provided entertainment for kids and adults of all ages right through the weekend. It was a huge success, with the crowds being able to enjoy snow for the first time this year. Some of the keener guests even put in a few turns!

A particular highlight of the weekend was the Gulaga Dancers. This indigenous dance group, native to the Monaro area, treated viewers to a journey through the Dreamtime. A non-denominational blessing of the snow was also held, followed by a vocal quartet. Other activities included Aboriginal tales for children, therapeutic massages and snowshoe trials. Jax Night Club kept the party going after hours with some of the countries best DJs, including DJ Abel, Chris Lawrence and Mr Blizzard .

One of the most exciting aspects of the celebrations is the return of long weekend activities to Perisher Blue. According to Gary Grant, General Manager of Marketing / Resort Services, these celebrations are important because The beginning of winter is a time that people look forward to every year. It is also a great chance for families and friends to come together and have lots of fun no matter what the snow is like

The snow has started to fall in Perisher Blue, covering the resort. Perisher Blue has also been able to utilise its extensive snow making facilities across Perisher, Blue Cow and Smiggins, creating more than enough cover for families to slide around on and make snowmen with. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting more snow to fall this week.
