Ever-popular ice exhibition returns to Cotai Expo for fourth successive year
(Macao, Nov. 26, 2014) – Ice World, Asia's largest annual indoor frozen wonderland, returns to The Venetian® Macao for its fourth triumphant year beginning Nov. 27. Supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office, Penguins Undercover Ice World with the DreamWorks Gang takes guests on a tour of the different settings of everyone's favourite DreamWorks Animation characters, carved in ice by talented craftsmen from Harbin. The ice sculpture exhibition is part of the DreamWorks Winter Experience at Cotai Strip Resorts.
An opening ceremony Wednesday afternoon featured a lively dance performance by the Penguins of Madagascar characters at The Venetian Macao's Cotai Expo Hall F, where Ice World will be open to the public 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily from Nov. 27, 2014 to March 8, 2015. The opening was officiated by Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office; Li Zhong Kai, Deputy Director General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Huang Xing Qian, Director-General of the Department of General Affairs of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Ciarán Carruthers, Senior Vice President and Director of Venetian and Plaza Operations, Sands China Ltd.; and Bai Wei, General Manager of Heilongjiang Provincial Ice Fun World Culture Communication Co. Ltd.
“Ice World has now become an annual tradition and one of our signature events for our visitors of all ages,” said Carruthers. “We work hard to bring our visitors a wide variety of exciting and diverse entertainment options at The Venetian Macao. We like to deliver on that goal with events like Ice World and the upcoming Winter in Venice, which is one of the biggest winter holiday carnivals in Macao.”
With an exhibition area covering more than 1,600 square metres, the fun-filled ice sculpture exhibition is divided into six themed zones. Skipper and his fellow “Penguins of Madagascar” – Kowalski, Rico and Private – introduce guests to their top-secret mission to explore the different worlds of the DreamWorks Animation characters, discovering what makes the holiday season so special for each.
The journey begins at The Venetian Macao, where visitors are briefed by the penguins on the undercover operation. Guests will see ice renderings of Italian piazzas, bridges over canals and singing gondoliers before meeting up with all-ice versions of the much-loved characters from “Shrek,” who will be celebrating the holidays with their tight-knit fairy tale family at the swamp house. Next will be King Julien, Alex the lion, and all the Zoosters from “Madagascar,” whose friendship is at the centre of their holiday cheer. The celebration continues with Hiccup, Toothless and all of their Viking friends on the Isle of Berk from the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise, where they celebrate the holidays as a uniquely bonded community. Visitors finally enter the frozen ancient Chinese Jade Palace, where they can slide down one of four amazing slides while Po the Kung Fu Panda and the Furious Five watch on, celebrating the holidays with a focus on tradition. With their mission complete, the penguins will guide guests back to The Venetian Macao where everyone will get to take a photograph with the Penguins of Madagascar and celebrate a successful undercover holiday operation.
Dubbed “the coolest experience in town,” Ice World with the DreamWorks Gang is sure to be a popular family draw with its colourful displays and fun-filled activities this winter season.
