Parrtjima Festival 03 Mar 2017
Parrtjima Returns to the Red Centre

Tourism Northern Territory

The spectacular free public event is the first authentic Indigenous light festival of its kind and showcases the oldest continuous culture on earth through the newest technology, on a 300-million-year-old natural canvas.

Illuminating 2.5 kilometres of the epic MacDonnell Ranges and spilling into Alice Springs Desert Park, Parrtjima provides a breathtaking outdoor gallery experience presenting local artwork, culture and stories, with interactive installations the whole family can enjoy.

This year's festival will feature a new and expanded program to impress visitors from across the Territory, Australia and the world.

Pronounced 'par-chee-ma', Parrtjima means 'lighting up' and conveys two meanings: The physical 'lighting up' of an object, and also in the context of 'lighting up' with meaning or understanding, to shed light on a subject. 'Parrt' means 'no idea' or 'no understanding', while 'Parrtjima' is the imparting of meaning and understanding

Event information, including the full festival program, will be released in the coming months.
