Andrology, the medical specialism dealing with male reproductive health, focuses on a sound development of hormone balance. Dr Peter Gartner, Parkhotel Igls' Medical Director, explains: 'Hormonal monitoring, diagnosis and treatment are routine for women, but equally important for men, although treatment is still in its infancy. To address this critical issue, we have introduced the Men's Medical Check.' Hormonal imbalance often contributes to a variety of male disorders from erectile dysfunction and infertility to diabetes. Parkhotel Igls' new Men's Medical Check, developed in conjunction with Austria's eminent urologist/andrologist Dr Germer-Michael Pinggera (LL.M, FECSM), is a thorough diagnostic module providing a full hormonal check and paying particular attention to testosterone levels. With age the testosterone function becomes considerably more complex having a major influence on male physical and mental well-being. Hypogonadism, or lack of testosterone, now affects up to one third of men over the age of 45 and can have an adverse effect on organs. Hypogonadism is also cited as an underlying cause of depression, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes and life expectancy. Men's Medical Check is priced at €2,431 and comprises a 50-minute physiotherapeutic muscle function test, expanded blood testing including hormone status, urinalysis, spirometry, oxidative stress measurement, ultrasound scans of abdominal organs and vessels, brain-supply vessels, thyroid, prostate and testicles, a 50-minute urological examination including consultation, ECGs and echocardiography. Individual andrology consultations are also available on request and by appointment with a 50-minute urological examination including consultation, expanded blood testing including hormone status and ultrasound scans of kidneys, bladder, prostate and testicles. The Men's Medical Check can be taken over a one week period and in conjunction with the Basic Programme, a fixed component of all treatment modules and usually combined with therapeutic modules. The Basic Programme is priced at €896 per person, and includes an initial examination and integrated health check, medical examination and manual abdominal treatment, daily Kneipp treatments, personal Modern Mayr cuisine diet plan, group exercise and relaxation training, lifestyle management and mental group coaching, presentations and information sessions, use of Spa facilities and concluding examination.

Accommodation is available from €151 per person per night (single room) and from €146 per person per night (based on two sharing a double room). Flightsto Innsbruck are available with a variety of airlines including EasyJet and British Airways.
