A picnic on the beach is a quintessentially British holiday pastime, and the good old sandwich will always be at the forefront of any good family feast al fresco. National Sandwich Week (10th- 16th May) gives our nation the chance to celebrate the wonder that isthe sarnie! And what better way to enjoy this breaded beauty, than during an outing in the British countryside?
Parkdean Holidays parks are set in some of the most picturesque and beautiful locations in the UK, and when asked, the staff were only too happy to divulge their favourite picnic spots and their favourite fillings too.
Amanda (Head of Reception) Looe Bay Holiday Park; Favourite sandwich: Pastrami and Salad on Rye Picnic spot recommendation: Hannafore Point, a lovely walk with gorgeous views of St Georges Island; a great place to watch the fishing boats gently swaying on the waves
David (General Manager) Mullion Holiday Park; Favourite sandwich: Ham and Cheese Picnic spot recommendation: Kynance Cove is very picturesque and although its about a 5 mile walk from the park, its well worth the trip. Sit overlooking this cove, eat your favourite sarnie and imagine the pirate treasure which could have been lost beneath
Andrew (General Manager) Ruda Holiday Park; Favourite sandwich: Chicken with Parma ham, mozzarella cheese and a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice to finish it off (talk about fancy!) Picnic spot recommendation: Either the parks very own sandy Croyde Bay beach which rates in the top 5 of Britains top surfing beaches, or Saunton Beach, which has a claim to fame as it was used as the filming location for Robbie Williamss music video Angels!
Carol (Head of Reception) Sandford Holiday Park; Favourite sandwich: Egg Picnic spot recommendation: The beach at Sandbanks is a very popular location for family picnics and days out at the seaside, but if youre looking for something a little different then Wareham Forest offers miles of lovely woodland
Anne (Head receptionist) Torquay Holiday Park; Favourite sandwich: Free range egg with mayonnaise and cress, served chilled so that the egg doesnt smell! Picnic spot recommendation: Cockington Country Park offers wide open spaces, woodland, beautiful lakes and plenty of space for kids run around in. Its only a short drive from the park and the medieval village of Cockington is also an interesting visit, with a very old pub called the Drum Inn (should the picnic get eaten by the dog!)
David (General Manager) Warmwell; Favourite sandwich: Prawn Picnic spot recommendation: Lulworth cove is the star attraction of the area, a short fifteen minute drive will take you to its sandy shores, and steps to the east of the beach will lead you into fossil forest and a glorious coastal walk
Susanne (Head of reception) Trecco Bay; Favourite sandwich: If she ate bread it would probably be cheese and tomato, but shes happy just to eat the middle! Picnic spot recommendation: Trecco beach and Newton beach are both excellent places to visit with a picnic, as long as you dont mind running the risk of getting sand in your sarnie! Well known for water sports and boating, just wait until your food had digested before hopping on a jet ski!
So whatever sandwich you want in your cool box during National Sandwich Week, just make sure you follow the advice of the Parkdean Holidays experts and go somewhere gorgeous to eat it!
