Pangolin's Elephant Bunker Produces Its First Award Winning Image

Pangolin Photo Safaris

It didn't take long and with such a unique vantage point its not surprising that The Elephant Bunker by Pangolin Photo Safaris in Botswana has produced its first award winning image.

Pangolin Photo Safaris is delighted to announce that Gerhard "Guts" Swanepoel won the black and white catagory in this years Botswana Wildlife Photographer of the Year with his striking image of a baby elephants trunk holding a small pebble. This picture was taken from Pangolin's recently completed Elephant Bunker which is situated just outside the Chobe National Park in Botswana.

Guts, as he prefers to be known is also a co-owner of Pangolin and has been photgraphing wildlife for many many years but this is his first international award for his work.

The Elephant Bunker was opened earlier in the year and is constructed from re-enforced concrete with a 23m tunnel taking clients safely and quietly to a hide at the end which itself is positioned a couple of meters away from a very busy water hole. Anyone who knows the Chobe knows that it is famous for its huge elephant population and this waterhole is a particular favourite of several large herds. It is not uncommon for there to be in excess of 100 animals at a time.

The hide takes eight clients, each with their own height-adjustable seat. Each client has a window at ground level from which to get some of the most fascinating shots.

Please visit www.pangolinphoto.com/bunker for a short video made shortly after the Bunker was completed.

The Elephant Bunker is free to use for all clients and is incorpotated into the workshop and course itineraries that Pangolin offers to photographers of all levels of experience throughout the year.

Pangolin welcomes all journalists and travel writers with a passion for photography to come and visit them in The Chobe and experience this truly unique vantage point.
