Singapore, October 2016 – Pan Pacific Hotels Group (PPHG) has, through a five–day fund raising initiative at its Singapore hotels' restaurants, raised money to purchase the largest number of food parcels ever received by Food Bank Singapore (FBSG).

In a joint effort, 200 volunteers from PPHG, FBSG, the People's Association, West Coast GRC and Pioneer Constituency distributed 1,600 food parcels to low-income households in recognition of World Food Day, a global day of action against hunger.

These food parcels were specially curated by PPHG's senior chefs and filled with ingredients and recipes for wholesome meals. A sample parcel for “Chef Low's Stir-fried Beehoon with Dried Shrimps” contained beehoon, fresh eggs, and whole mushrooms, and a recipe card with step-by-step instructions by Chef Low. Each food parcel also contained a drink and snack to make a complete meal.

The launch event was held at Ayer Rajah Community Club where lead chef Andy Oh, the Executive Chef of Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore, conducted a cooking demonstration of his recipe, “Singapore Laksa”. Tasting portions of Chef Andy's laksa as well as the other Chefs' recipes were served to 200 residents who attended the launch. They were joined by Mr Cedric Foo, Adviser to Pioneer Grassroots Organisations, Mr Patrick Tay, BBM, Adviser to Boon Lay Grassroots Organisations and Ms Foo Mee Har, Adviser to Ayer Rajah Grassroots Organisations.

Mr Bernold Schroeder, Chief Executive Officer, Pan Pacific Hotels Group, said, “We are delighted to partner The Food Bank Singapore in this food donation drive, which is perfectly aligned to the culinary theme of our corporate social responsibility initiative, Eat Well With Us, where we harness the collective experience of the senior chefs from our five Singapore hotels to enliven the meals served at our adopted charity homes. We are amazed by the support we received from the People's Association, West Coast GRC and Pioneer Constituency, which have been instrumental in helping us fulfil our commitment to give back to the communities we operate in and to make a difference in any way we can.”

“World Food Day carries a special significance to us as food is the heart and soul to why we do what we do,” said Ms Nichol Ng, Chief Food Officer, Food Bank Singapore. “We are deeply fortunate to be able to work with Pan Pacific Hotels Group to bring healthier food to more than 1,000 families on this special occasion. It is indeed a collaboration worth celebrating! Thank you for your donation and to the People's Association for making this happen."

“We are pleased to have Pan Pacific Hotels Group, The Food Bank Singapore and the People's Association coming together to bring this programme to benefit more than 1,000 families in West Coast GRC and Pioneer Constituency. We hope to see more corporate partners extending help to the less fortunate in the communities they operate in," said Mr Cedric Foo, Adviser to Pioneer Grassroots Organisations.
