Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism

The Californian city of Palm Springs is getting ready to receive the Hollywood treatment for the 2015 Palm Springs International Film Festival. Scheduled for 2nd-12th January, this highly anticipated affair will see some of the world's most famous movie stars descend upon Palm Springs to enjoy one of the biggest film festivals in North America.

This week and a half-long film festival - which was founded by the late Sonny Bono during his reign as city mayor - is a star-studded occasion featuring more than 200 films from 70 countries and various premieres.

Visitors will find no less than 15 screens throughout Palm Springs showcasing the very best of international film across countless genres from 9am until 11pm. The festival also features cultural events, filmmaker tributes and the popular 'Talking Pictures' series of on-stage interviews with some of the leading talents in contemporary cinema, making it a can't-miss event for film lovers and casual cinemagoers alike.

On 3rd January 2015, the Palm Springs Convention Center will play host to the ultra-glamorous Awards Gala which honours individuals in the film industry with awards for acting, directing, achievement in film and lifetime achievement. Internationally-acclaimed actress Julianne Moore is set to be one of the honourees for 2015.

Known as Hollywood's playground of the stars and a burgeoning film festival destination, Palm Springs hosts several high-profile film festivals throughout the year. With an enduring celebrity appeal, famous links to Hollywood's glitterati like Marilyn Monroe whose former home can be found in Palm Springs, and its popularity as a movie location - previously starring in box office hits Alpha Dog and Ocean's Eleven - the city of Palm Springs is a natural choice to host one of North America's largest international film festivals.

Tickets for the festival go on sale to the general public in late December, with prices starting at just $10 (approximately £6.20) for matinee screenings. For more information, please visit: www.psfilmfest.org.
