Palladium Hotel Group is removing single-use plastics from its Ibiza & Tenerife hotels; Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, and all the properties under the Palladium Hotels and Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts brands in Europe.  Starting this season, all single-use plastics will be replaced with biodegradable materials.

The hotel company belonging to the Group Empresas Matutes, located in Ibiza, Spain, started its plastic substitution project in 2018 and aims to complete the elimination of single-use plastics ahead of the 2019 summer season.

Carmen Matutes, deputy director general of quality & operations at Palladium Hotel Group, says; "it has long been our aim to reduce the use of single-use plastics in our hotels. We launched the pilot initiative at Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife in 2018 by initially eliminating straws which was a great success. We now aim to eliminate all-single-use plastics and expand the campaign to also include our Ibiza properties.

The elimination of single-use plastics across the Ibiza & Tenerife hotel portfolio is just one step in a series of environmental initiatives undertaken by Palladium Hotel Group to reduce its impact on the environment. “We want to continue moving forward in this line because we are very aware of the importance of the environment and that caring for our environment is a responsibility of everyone," comments Matutes.

Environmental Recognitions

Palladium Hotel Group has received many awards for its commitment to the environment, such as the recent 'Rethink Hotel' award, given to Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, or the Earthcheck certifications awarded to Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa, Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa, Grand Palladium Colonial Resort Spa, Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa and Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa. In addition, Blue Flags were granted to its properties in the Caribbean and America (Grand Palladium Bávaro Suites Resort & Spa, Grand Palladium Palace Resort, Spa & Casino, Grand Palladium Punta Cana Resort & Spa, Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa and TRS Turquesa Hotel) for the care and conservation of the beaches.
