Lower Widddicombe Farm is two miles in either direction from peaceful seaside fishing villages with unusual tales to tell.

Who would imagine The Cricket Inn in tiny Beesands hosted Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' first public performance? And the incongruous sight of a seashore tank in Torcross is a reminder of drama when D-Day landing rehearsals were intercepted by German torpedo boats.

Lower Widdicombe Farm, Beesands, South Devon

A fabulous five-star house in a lovely spot on the Devon coast for get-togethers and celebrations…

A footpath from Lower Widdicombe Farm, this 19th century Devon farmhouse, leads across fields to the South West Coast Path and the long beach at Beesands.

At the heart of the house is the sociable kitchen/dining room, a lovely place for families or up to 14 friends to gather round the bespoke oak table beside the woodburner. French windows lead from the hand-built kitchen to a sunny terrace with picnic tables for soaking up views towards the sea over rolling South Hams farmland.

This is a great destination for feasting like kings, with just-landed fresh fish for sale in the village and a fabulous farm shop full of delicious West Country food and drink a couple of miles away. When you don't feel like cooking, there's a good fish restaurant in the village.

The living room is cosy and peaceful with another glowing woodburner.

With seven bedrooms and six bath or shower rooms, there's masses of space for everyone, including a downstairs bedroom for guests who'd rather not tackle the stairs.

Bathrooms in holiday homes are usually efficient and practical, but in this house they're stunning, matching functionality with beauty. A wonderful place for a soak with a flute of Prosecco!

And just for fun… a big games room with table tennis and table football will have guests hoping for a rainy day. But sunshine is more common than showers in lovely South Devon, so between trips to the beach, the big lawn is perfect for kicking balls and running free.
