Orvis are one of the world-leaders in fly-fishing and, as such, are proud to offer a series of free “Learn to Fly-Fish” sessions. Celebrating its 5th year, Orvis' free nationwide fly-fishing tuition programme is dedicated to introducing fly-fishing to a new, modern audience.
James Doyle, Orvis Fieldsports Manager says, “Fly-fishing is at the heart of who we are and what we do. Fly fishing is a great leveller, connecting all kinds of people with nature in a unique and adventurous way.”
Through Orvis' desire to protect fish and champion fishing, its “Learn to Fly-Fish” programme is committed to showcasing the modern world of fly-fishing to anyone with a sense of wonder about the outdoors. By removing traditional boundaries and improving accessibility to the sport, Orvis are introducing the sport to thousands people every year and helping to secure the future of fishing and fish habitats.
“This generation has different expectations to the fly fishermen of the past”, says Doyle. “They are inspired by adventure, have a shared connection with nature and they want products that not only solve problems but also look and feel great. They are looking to connect with like-minded people, who share a passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors. The Orvis “Learn to Fly-Fish” programme is a great gateway into something that has been fairly obscured until now.”
Over the past four years Orvis UK has introduced over three thousand people to the sport of fly-fishing with their free “Learn to Fly-Fish” sessions held at Orvis stores across the UK. Each two hour session delivers a fun and simple demonstration of how anyone can become a fly fisher. Teaching a couple of basic knots, how to set up a rod and cast it in a fun and intuitive way.
Fly-fishing is at Orvis' core and so the company works to protect the delicate environments in which trout and salmon live. The angling community, including brands like Orvis, have a vested interest in preserving the rivers, lakes and streams that fish and invertebrates thrive. Orvis endeavours to protect the UK's rivers, working with numerous conservation partners including The Angling Trust and Salmon and Trout Conservation UK.
In the words of Orvis CEO Perk Perkins, “Orvis seeks to inspire a deep connection to adventure and wonder in the outdoor world. For Orvis and its customers alike, the outdoors not only sustain us, but demand of us, if we are to benefit from the use of our natural resources, that we be willing to act to preserve them.”
