A FARMSTAY SICILIAN-STYLE
Villa La Terra del Sole: For a special gastronomic break, stay in the heart of the action on an organic farm, and even help with the harvesting of the produce. Set on a sprawling 20 acre estate at the foot of Mount Petrulla, on Sicily's south coast, this beautifully renovated farmhouse is surrounded by organic olive groves. The fertile plains here make it the perfect spot for olive cultivation, and the estate produces exceptional Extra Virgin Olive Oil using the Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla and Moresca olive varieties. Guests staying in September and early October are welcome to join in the harvesting of the olives which are partly gathered by hand and learn about the processes which take the olive from the tree to the bottle.
When not joining in with the farming cycle, enjoy the tranquil location, staying in the middle of the countryside, yet with the sea on the doorstep and archaeological sites within driving distance. The historic farmhouse is divided into two apartments - La Scuderia (sleeping 6-7) and La Suite (sleeping 3) – which can be rented separately or in unison and share an infinity swimming pool, solarium and barbecue. Relax by the pool or under the shaded terraces, meander through the grounds, or head to nearby Licata for tennis, horse riding and the beach. What's more, with the owners' residence on the estate, their discreet presence means guests can benefit from their local knowledge.
Price: one week's self-catering costs from €1,900 (sleeps up to 10). A 10% discount will be applied to July stays.
