There are over 4000 islands in Tasmania, Australia. Less than a dozen are privately owned. The owner of Picnic Island is a former Member of Parliament who used to use the island as a wild camping retreat. He has now developed an eco-friendly off grid retreat which is open for private bookings.
Located just 1km offshore from the Freycinet National Park and just around the corner from Wineglass Bay (top 10 beaches in the world), this island is a seabird rookery.
Your sleep may be disturbed by the hundreds of penguins and shearwaters that nest on the island. By day you may be distracted by the dolphins, seals and occasionally whales that cruise past the island.
This is a true adventure holiday but with bespoke comforts. Designed by legendary Tasmanian architect, John Latham, this copper clad lodge blends into the spectacular natural setting. The water laps under your accommodation and the spectacular Birdhouse living area is cantilevered over the high water mark.
Access is by local water taxi and we sleep up to 10 people.
Opening special offer $880 per night (rack rate $1200 per night) for stays up to 1 November for 3 night minimum for TravMedia members.
Famils available for journalists.
