The results of research released by Holiday Extras indicate that 78% of British holidaymakers have never been on a skiing holiday and most of those that have don't even go for the skiing! According to the study of over two thousand people, out of those holidaymakers who have visited the slopes, only 36% claim that skiing is the most enjoyable aspect of a winter holiday.

Twenty-seven percent of those that have been skiing declared that simply being in the mountains is what they enjoyed the most, while nine percent enjoyed the relaxing spas, nine percent the fresh air and nine percent being in the snow.

The research also revealed the popularity of the lesser known European skiing destinations. Bulgaria tops the list scooping 30% of preferences, followed by the Czech Republic (16%) and Poland (16%). Lithuania came bottom of the list, with only two percent of respondents saying they are most likely to consider it for a skiing holiday.

Ant Clarke Cowell, Communications Director at Holiday Extras, commented: “For some of us, skiing holidays are all about those unique experiences that come with being in the mountains. There's much more to a winter holiday than it might seem - you don't need to be an adrenalin junkie or a pro snowboarder to enjoy a winter getaway”.
