One Ocean Expeditions Expands in the High Arctic

One Ocean Expeditions

One Ocean Expeditions will be participating in the Canadian Corroboree for the first time in 2014. Based out of Squamish, British Columbia, One Ocean Expeditions have quickly established themselves as one of Canada's leaders in Arctic expedition cruising. In 2014, they will operate two exceptional voyages in the High Arctic, including an east-west transit of the fabled North-West Passage. 2014 marks the 70th anniversary since the Royal Canadian Mounted Police vessel, St. Roch, completed this remarkable feat of polar navigation. A 12-night voyage, departing 25 August, follows a similar course to the St Roch all those years ago.

The company's second Arctic expedition explores the east coast of Baffin Island in great depth, with visits to remote Inuit communities, exceptional wildlife sightings and copious history. A highlight of the Baffin Island expedition is time spent above the Arctic Circle, where the ship skirts the fringes of the pack ice in Baffin Bay – home to significant and abundant wildlife, including polar bear.

Both expeditions will be aboard the celebrated expedition ship, Akademik Ioffe – carrying fewer than 100 passengers per voyage. During the day, guests enjoy off-ship excursions by zodiac inflatable boat, as well as interpretive walks ashore with qualified naturalists, wildlife and bird guides and experienced outdoor field staff. The voyage is further enhanced by onboard presentations by our expert staff, and a host of other pleasant distractions.

One Ocean Expeditions Australian Manager, Richard Cunningham, was keen to reveal plans for the Canadian Arctic into 2015. “Our expedition programme in Canada is set to double the number of departures in 2015 as we re-introduce some of our most popular itineraries, including The Islands of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, a 9-night voyage starting in Cape Breton. Our East to the Arctic voyage, (11-nights) which explores the French colonies of St Pierre and Michelon, as well as the 'French Coast' of Newfoundland will also return in 2015”, said Cunningham.

“These are particularly beautiful regions of the Canadian Arctic and very close to our heart. Andrew Prossin, the CEO and Founder of One Ocean Expeditions grew up in Cape Breton – and has fulfilled a long time dream to bring one of our expedition ships to showcase this breathtaking region to our guests”.

Details of new voyages will be released to trade partners and the travel media during the Canadian Corroboree roadshow.
