The Australian ski and snowboard season is well and truly under way with more than one metre of fresh natural snow dumped on Perisher Blue ski resort last week, and it is snowing again today.
The resort has seen a mixture of blizzard conditions, sun filled days, crisp cold nights and plenty of excellent early winter snow. Late last week the powder accumulated to the delight of skiers and boarders who descended on the mountains with one thing on their minds, fresh tracks, and there were plenty to be had.
Perisher Blue has been quick to open more terrain across the resort as the snow continues to fall, while being mindful of the need to ensure guest safety is at the forefront of any decision to open new areas. Ski Patrollers have been rigorously checking and marking all sections within the resort boundaries and Perishers fleet of snow-groomers have been preparing the slopes and lift access points.
More runs for all standards are now set to open in the lead up to the first weekend of the school holidays, starting with the Double Chair on the flagship Mount Perisher which opened late Wednesday.
Guthega resort area will also see two lifts open today giving access to some of Australias most scenic ski trails.
Saturday has further lifts expected to be added to the lift count, including The Ridge, Pleasant Valley, Pretty Valley, Eyre, Sun Valley, Piper, Blaxland, Telemark, Cow Pastures and the Car Park Double Chairlift.
This will bring the total lift count to 48, meaning the most lifts and terrain open than any other ski resort in Australia.
As well as the countless natural hits, kickers, jumps and burms on offer for the more adventurous at Perisher Blue, there is also a beginner terrain park now located in the Leichhardt area of Centre Valley. Guests can hone their skills and get comfortable riding rails in time for the soon to be installed expert park features.
Maintaining its position at the forefront of innovative resort activities, a brand new Snow Deck park is planned for action during the second week of the NSW school holidays on Front Valley, along side the soon to open Super Pipe. This relatively new form of snow-riding is similar to a skateboarding, just without wheels!
There is plenty to do and plenty of snow at Perisher Blue, now open for your pleasure! Check out latest conditions and information on www.perisherblue.com.au.
