Since Leonardo DiCaprio's first Oscar nomination following his role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), based on a town in Iowa and largely filmed in Texas, to when his character, Jack, almost reached New York City in James Cameron's Titanic (1997), the Hollywood actor has turned attention to a number of USA locations across the past two decades.

With an Oscar win looming for DiCaprio during Sunday's 88th Academy Awards, visitors to the USA can experience the destinations he's made famous.

Inspired by DiCaprio's Wolf of Wall Street (2013), visitors to New York City can take a walking tour of the financial district and immerse themselves in the high-speed culture. The Wall Street Experience allows tourists to get the business and financial perspective with stories from Wall Street Insiders with tour themes including The Financial Crisis, Wall Street Insider and 9/11 Ground Zero from $35 (approx. £24). www.VisitTheUSA.com/newyorkcity / www.thewallstreetexperience.com

In the same year, DiCaprio brought 1920's New York elegance with his title character in The Great Gatsby, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's Long Island-set novel. Visitors can get a taste of Gatsby's nouveau-riche existence just minutes from the bustle of Manhattan, where the island offers wineries, oceanside dining and beautiful beaches to while away the days with a Long Island Ice Tea in hand. Families can also experience activities to please all with waterparks, aquariums and summer and ample shopping opportunities. Further up the coast, the 1974 film location can be found, with Gatsby's mansion being set across two Newport properties on Bellevue Avenue in Rhode Island. www.VisitTheUSA.com/newyork / www.discoverlongisland.com

Boston, Massachusetts, served the setting for four times Oscar winning The Departed (2006), in which Leonardo played an undercover cop assigned to infiltrate to Irish American mob syndicate, led by Jack Nicholson's character. On Location Tours allows film buffs to see one of Nicholson's mob hangouts, among other scenes by Beacon Hill and Boston Common, known as Boston's movie mile. Tickets cost $25 for the 1.5 hour tour operating 1st April – 31st October. Boston's Peddocks Island was used as the setting for Scorsese thriller, Shutter Island (2010). The largest of the Harbor Islands, offering visitors unmatched views of the Boston skyline, hiking trails and beaches, can be reached by ferry. www.VisitTheUSA.com/boston / www.onlocationtours.com/boston-tours

The Clint Eastwood film, J.Edgar (2011), in which DiCaprio plays the title role, gives a Hollywood take on the controversial director of the FBI. With Washington, D.C. serving as a playground for political and history film buffs, scenes from J.Edgar shot at the Library of Congress and around downtown D.C., visitors can delve further in to the history of the FBI and world of spies at the International Spy Museum (entry cost $20.95, approx. £15). www.VisitTheUSA.com/washington-dc / www.spymuseum.org

Tarantino's Django Unchained (2012) saw DiCaprio heading west, with filming locations in California, Wyoming and Louisiana, as he played brutal plantation owner and slave breeder, Calvin Candie. Fans of Western films can ride on horseback across the diverse south west landscape, with ranch holidays across the USA. Just one hour from Jackson, as seen with snow topped mountains as Foxx rode on horseback in the film, is Goosewing Ranch, part of the Yellowstone plateau, where visitors can find their inner-cowboy and take amazing scenery rides in a valley that is home to some of the USA's most spectacular game, including elk, moose, mountain sheep and bears, complete with a hot tub and sauna to relax in by night. Candie's plantation was filmed in Evergreen Plantation, Louisiana, being one of the most intact historic plantations in the south. Fans of the film can take a tour of the house, with three per day, Monday to Saturday. www.VisitTheUSA.com/wyoming / www.VisitTheUSA.com/Louisiana  / www.goosewingranch.com / www.evergreenplantation.org

DiCaprio was recently tipped to play the USA's first serial killer, Dr. Holmes, in Scorsese's film adaptation of Devil in the White City, following the killer's story set in 1893 Chicago, as the city held the World's Fair. Chicago's Finest Tours has introduced 'The Rainbow and White City Tour' to its portfolio of Chicago history tours, inviting visitors to go back in time and walk the grounds of the fair. www.VisitTheUSA.com/chicago / www.chicagosfinesttours.com/bus-tours
