As the world is enthralled by the spectacle of the winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in South Korea, Salt Lake City has announced its bid to be the host city, once again, in 2026 or 2030. It was the host city in 2002, when Park City www.visitparkcity.com successfully hosted many of the Alpine and Nordic skiing events as well as bobsleigh and other sliding competitions. Competing with two other American cities for the nomination, fingers are very firmly crossed in both Salt Lake City and Park City for a successful outcome.
Just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City international airport, the ski town of Park City is famed for the copious amounts of powder snow that falls on its slopes each winter. Home to Park City Mountain, the biggest ski area in the USA and Deer Valley, frequently voted as the best ski area. Park City is a world class destination with humble roots in the silver mining boom of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
With spring around the corner and the fluffiest of powder snow blanketing the town and mountains, Park City shifts into top gear both on and off the mountain. Park City Mountain's attractions go beyond its awesome ski terrain spread over seventeen peaks. Spring means outdoor apres ski and Park City Mountain has it in spades with live music, Dj's s'mores and more to keep the party going at each base area. And for something completely different, each weekend during February and March at Canyon Village base, guests can come to the popular 'Meet and Greet' sessions and get to know the cute Park City Mountain avalanche dogs and their almost as cute ski patrol handlers!
Meanwhile, the Montage, Deer Valley – a gorgeous hotel that exudes luxury and service throughout – will be hosting its popular 'Apres Ski Beach Party' on March 17t. All skiers are welcome and can expect 'Bubbles and Brats' (bratwurst) complimentary food and a live DJ, with outdoor deckchair seating – perfect for catching the mountain sun - or relax indoors in the comfort of the Montage's stylish champagne yurt on the snow.
