The Georgia OKeeffe Museum is pleased to announce a new partnership with Kappa Delta Sorority, which is the sorority that counted Georgia OKeeffe as a member. Georgia OKeeffe was an active member while she was a student in Virginia, and contributed to the design of their initiation ceremony. This recent partnership includes an important gift from the Kappa Delta Foundation to support the Art and Leadership Program for Girls with funding stipends for two Kappa Delta interns as well as general program support.
Kappa Delta has at least one common mission with the Girls Program: leadership. Both contribute to the development of skills which are important qualities in our world. As the affiliation grows, plans include OKeeffe Art and Leadership seminars for college women on the campuses of participating interns. As part of this new and developing partnership, the OKeeffe Museum is offering a special Kappa Delta membership to students and alumnae of Kappa Delta.
Currently there are two interns working for the Education Department who are members of Kappa Delta Sorority. Sarah Tartt is from the University of Southern Mississippi. She feels that her leadership experiences as well as interpersonal relationships in the sorority help her in her internship in the Art & Leadership Program for Girls: My life has been blessed because of those experiences and sharing them with the girls in the Art and Leadership Program is a way to contribute and share with others, stated Sarah.
Leah Dedmon is from Wake Forest University, North Carolina. Leah feels that she has gained great skills that she can apply to her internship here at the OKeeffe Art and Leadership Program. Kappa Delta has given me many opportunities I would otherwise not have had, stated Leah. The primary one is this internship with the Girls Program, which has allowed me to meet amazing new people, expand my perspective on life and improve my leadership skills.
The Georgia OKeeffe Museum looks forward to the evolving relationship with Kappa Delta and is grateful for their gift. The overlapping values of the two organizations will serve to strengthen both.
