Oceania Cruises has published The Oceania Cruises Art Collection, a comprehensive catalogue of the art and artists featured in its world-class collection onboard Marinaand Riviera.  More than 2,000 works adorn the line’s award-winning mid-size ships.

The 205-page book showcases in vibrant colours, images of the renowned works in the collection as well as artist biographies and the story of how Oceania Cruises’ founders Frank J. Del Rio and Bob Binder personally amassed the collection.

“Since the collection was unveiled, guests, art enthusiasts and critics have been requesting a catalogue of these provocative and eclectic works,” said Del Rio, who is chairman and CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent company of Oceania Cruises.  “The Oceania Cruises Art Collection not only showcases the artwork but also enhances appreciation by telling the stories of the artists, their passions and their inspiration.”

While most cruise lines hire a third party to curate decorative art for their ships, Del Rio and Binder travelled the world to acquire a museum-worthy art collection over a period of years.  From masters like Picasso and Miró to the modern art of Robert Mars and Damien Hirst to emerging artists such as Li Domínguez Fong and Carlos Luna, the diverse collection spans eras and genres.  In a nod to Del Rio’s Cuban heritage, the collection includes an impressive array of celebrated Cuban artists such as Wifredo Lam, Cundo Bermúdez and René Portocarrero.

“We weren’t just looking for background music with our onboard collection,” added Binder, who is vice chairman of Prestige Cruise Holdings.  “We wanted pieces that were bold and interesting, pieces that made a statement, provoked conversation and inspired emotion.”
