(Carson City, Nev.) - A Las Vegas nurse will act as the Assistant Engineer on a V&T Steam-Up at the Nevada State Museum with an official V7T engineer as the winner of a Web site contest sponsored by the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. The V&T engineer will give Monica Hass a taste of what its like to be behind the wheel of a locomotive as it zips along the tracks in Carson City. The engineer will also share insights on the railroad industry as they work side-by-side during the trains one-mile loop. The prize package is for two people and includes one nights lodging at Hampton Inn & Suites in Carson City.
Its a terrific opportunity, said Joanne Waddell. Im excited about going into areas of the museum that arent open to the public.
The novice museumgoer and her boyfriend, Ken Gohr of Carson City, will have a tour catered to their interests. Theyll get to choose among many options offered at the Nevada State Museum including natural or cultural history. Then theyll be paired with the curator who is in charge of that area. From there the duo will be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour into collections, storage areas and vaults that are off-limits to visitors.
This CCCVB Web contest promotes history, which is one of the areas most popular activities. In addition to the Nevada State Museum, Carson City is home to the historic 2.5-mile Kit Carson Trail. Annual guided themed walks include the Ghost Walk in October and the Victorian Home Christmas Tour in December. Those who prefer a self-guided tour can hear the stories of featured houses and points of interest at any time using a specified radio frequency, which are listed at the front entrance to each site. Walkers follow a sidewalk route marked by a blue line and inlaid bronze medallions signifying special points of interest. Complimentary maps of the route are available at the CCCVB Visitors Center at 1900 South Carson St.
Waddell is looking forward to returning to Carson City to see her boyfriend and to redeem her customized prize.
