Northstar-at-Tahoe (Northstar) may be best known as a winter resort, but when the snow melts, Northstars award winning 18-hole resort golf course provides plenty of warm weather fun. The unique course is almost like playing two courses in one. This season, golfers will experience many benefits and new challenges in their game since Northstar switched its front nine with the back nine.
Switching the Nines: To spice up the season, players will now start their game on the more challenging half of the course, where shot making is a premium. The new front nine requires tight, precise play with tree-lined, narrow fairways and small greens. On the back nine, players can relax and enjoy well-lit and wide-open, links-style play with frequent bunkers, three ponds and scenic views unique to Northstars location in the Sierra Nevada.
Northstars scenic course provides a number of challenges in the valley and the woods. The switching of the nines will not change the unique course design but rather improve the way the game is played. These changes will increase the speed and flow of the course as well as provide optimum light and weather conditions for a great day of golf.
Jeff Richter, Northstars new PGA Golf Pro says, Switching the nines has two great advantages. First it helps to avoid frost delays that plague the Sierra/Lake Tahoe golf courses throughout the season. Second it allows afternoon golfers, who may only have time for nine holes, to come out and start on one of the most memorable nines in the area.
Course Design: Northstars par-71 (men) and par 72 (women), 18-hole course was designed by Robert Muir Graves, legendary landscape architect. His designs are notorious for integrating rugged, wooded sites with wavy bunkers and putting surfaces. The result of a Graves creation is a very active looking course. His unique features create a flow of movement in the land, qualities golfers will experience while playing at Northstar-at-Tahoe. -more- The course plays up to 6,781 yards. Northstar offers four tee locations and carries a rating of 72.4. Course amenities include a putting green, driving range, clubhouse, locker rooms, snack bar, Martis Valley Grille restaurant and lounge, and a golf shop. The golf course is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to dusk, while the driving range hours are 6:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Recognition: The golf course at Northstar has achieved designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS), the educational division of Audubon International. Northstar-at-Tahoes golf course is the fifteenth course in California and 351st in the world to receive this honor.
