North Tahoe Getaways Ideal for Adult Travelers

Lake Tahoe Travel

(NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nevada) North Lake Tahoe may be the ultimate playground for people of all ages, but its the adults who are leading their own trend in the travel industry and finding an array of activities and sophisticated perks just for them.

Adult-only trips are on the rise, according to the 2007 National Leisure Travel Monitor from marketing firm Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown and Russell (YPB&R). Six out of ten vacationers recently took a trip with a spouse or another adult, without children - thats twice the number of adults who took trips with kids.

With the increase in the number of adults who dont have children, this is a growing market, Peter Yesawich, chief executive of YPB&R, said. This is also a less price-sensitive crowd and a highly lucrative one for the travel industry. So they are going out of their way to accommodate adults who want to be separate from families.

Casinos are a leading draw for the over-21 crowd. The casino corridor in Crystal Bay is home to a handful of intimate, historical casinos with the opportunity of big winnings. The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village is enticing travelers to place their bets with a Luxury Gaming Package, complete with luxury accommodations for two, gaming instruction guides, practice deck, $10 complimentary match coupons, one-hour private gaming clinic teaching the fundamentals of blackjack and craps and cocktails at the propertys Cutthroat Saloon.

The Hyatts Stillwater Spa also seeks to lure loving couples and hedonistic adults with four treatment packages designed specifically for couples. A menu of unique spa treatments, including Orange Blossom Massage and Divine Caviar Indulgence, are fit for discerning adult travelers.

Trilogy Spa and the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, California also offer luxurious services in an upscale setting that adults will enjoy.

Wine tasting skiers and boarders can head to Last Tracks at Diamond Peak Ski Resort in Incline Village where guests can sample wines and appetizers at Snowflake Lodge at the end of the day before making their way down freshly groomed trails at twilight. Space is limited and attendees must be at least 21 years old.

Further wine tasting can be found at two new wine bars in the area - Trio in Truckee and Uncorked in the Village at Squaw. Theres also the Pour House in Truckee or Time for Wine in Tahoe City. At Northstar-at-Tahoe the gourmet delicatessen Earthly Delights, along with Syds Bagelery and Expresso in Tahoe City, recently added wine bars to meet the needs of its patrons. Grapes and Grounds in the new Village at Northstar also offers a tasting bar. Truckee River Winery, which produces a limited quantity of fine wines, recently opened a tasting room at the Tahoe Tree Company in Tahoe City.

While lodging properties dont turn kids away, the Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee considers itself a couples hotel, emphasizing a philosophy that nurtures a healthy lifestyle, from its stylish, European eco-design to its plans to develop culinary programs. The upscale inn was also listed as one of the top Hotels for Two on www.71miles.com.

Additional sophisticated hotels include the boutique-chic PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn, which often offers packages designed for couples and adults; the lakefront Shore House Bed and Breakfast in Tahoe Vista offering couples massages and organized adventure outings for two; and the cozy Cottage Inn in Tahoe City.

North Lake Tahoe is a 45-minute drive from the Reno Tahoe International Airport, two hours from Sacramento International Airport and just over three hours from San Francisco International Airport.
