What is the ASTW?

The Australian Society of Travel Writers is Australia's peak body for travel media and includes writers, editors, digital publishers, PR professionals, photographers and videographers.

All ASTW members are independently reviewed, accepted and accredited as bona fide members of Australia's travel media industry.

Why join the ASTW?

Valuable networking opportunities

Tap into a national network of travel professionals, which can lead to commissions, famil invitations, the exchange of ideas and lasting friendships. Members have access to a members-only section of the ASTW website, including a directory, a private Facebook page and monthly newsletters.

Membership card, email signature and TravMedia membership

Members receive a personalised ID card and can add the ASTW logo to their correspondence and other platforms, including websites, blogs, LinkedIn profiles and resumes for added credibility. ASTW writers and digital publishers also automatically become TravMedia members and can attend IMM. 

Professional development

Members receive free access to a range of webinars, plus ad hoc professional development sessions in different cities.

Regular events around Australia

The ASTW holds regular lunches in five states, as well as an annual (famously competitive) trivia night in Sydney.

ASTW Convention

A highlight is the ASTW Convention, held either in Australia or overseas. The convention includes a packed program of guest speakers, presentations and workshops, along with the ASTW AGM and the gala dinner. Pre- and post-famils are also offered.

ASTW Awards for Excellence

Members can enter the prestigious ASTW Awards for Excellence, which honour our top writers, digital publishers, photographers and communicators. These awards attract great prizes (including cruises, accommodation and flights) and industry accolades.

Eligible stories, photographs, blogs and media campaigns must have been published or produced in the 2022–23 financial year and while the entrant was an ASTW member. So, if you would like to enter this year's awards (presented in November), join the ASTW now.

*Note, an annual fee of $225 (pro rata) will apply and applications must include two full writer sponsors.
