NIGHTCLUBBING IN HOLLYWOOD 101: A QUICK GUIDE TO THE DO'S AND DON'T OF PARTYING AT HOLLYWOOD'S HOTTEST NIGHT SPOTS
HOLLYWOOD, CA, April 19, 2012 - So you've seen all the tabloid photos of today's hottest celebrities partying at Hollywood's "it" places, and you've wondered to yourself, "how do I get in to a club like that?" You don't have to be famous or even "know people" to make it past the velvet rope in Hollywood (although that certainly helps), but there are definitely some things you can do to help your chances of getting in. You should also know what maneuvers are going to guarantee that you're stuck waiting out in the cold all night. Luckily, your friends at the Hollywood Entertainment District are here to tell you everything you need to know about nightclubbing in Hollywood.
What To Do:
According to a veteran Hollywood bouncer, the two best things you can do to get in to a club are 1. Dress nicely and 2. Be humble. Even if you're not on a list, you can go up to a doorman, ask politely, and if you look good and have a great attitude, chances are you might get in. He also recommends you watch how a door is run, and determine who's the real "shotcaller." The bouncer holding the clipboard may not be the actual decision maker...someone hanging back might be the one in charge. Once you've figured out the identity of the key decision maker, make eye contact, then ask that person, NICELY, if you can come in.
What Not to Do:
There are a few definite no-nos that will guarantee you won't make it past the velvet rope. The first is arriving with large groups of guys. No club wants a pack of testosterone-driven alpha males roaming around, causing trouble. Our doorman recommends you come in a mixed group...the more women the better. As far as dress code, he says "no gangster wear, no sports attire and no flashy labels (especially Ed Hardy)." He adds, "don't be aggressive, and don't ever utter these lines once you've been denied entrance, 'but I'm on the list...look again,' or 'I know the owner.'" They're the kiss of death!
Dealing With Doormen:
Many people try to impress a doorman by pulling out a big wad of cash and peeling off a few big bills to gain entrance. If you're going to try cash for entrance, our doorman says, "be cool." Slip a $20 (or higher) to the doorman in the palm of your hand with the denomination showing just slightly. This will work with some bouncers, he comments, but not all...it's always worth a try, though. He also adds, "don't think that arriving in a limo will guarantee you get in. We see them everyday...they don't impress anyone."
Getting on the List:
How do you get on the guest list to an A-list club? This one's tricky. Many of the top clubs don't have a list. They either know you or they don't. But for those that do, you can visit www.guestlisthollywood.com, a website that helps you to make guest list reservations at some of Hollywood's biggest clubs. Most of the big celebrity parties you read about in the magazines are thrown by promoters. Our bouncer recommends you take note of any promoter names you see in conjunction with party coverage, and then follow them on Facebook to see what events are coming up and how you can get on the list.
Be Prepared:
There are a few key things you should know about Hollywood clubs. Many of them require that you order "bottle service" in order to gain entrance. Bottle service means that you must reserve a table for a certain number of guests and purchase several bottles of liquor. These usually come with mixers and, often, a VIP hostess. Bottle service is typically very expensive, but it does guarantee that you have your own seating area and do not have to wait in line for drinks at the bar. You should also be wary of bad promoters. If you drive by a club and see people waiting outside six deep, and it's a rough-looking crowd, you probably want to steer clear. Not all promoters are equal when it comes to attracting quality clientele. And finally, do not arrive in a party bus...most clubs do not welcome them and will turn you away if they see you stepping out of one!
Hottest Clubs in Hollywood:
Nightclubs in Hollywood come and go faster than fashion trends. According to our bouncer, the hottest clubs right now include Colony, Drai's Hollywood, Eden, Hemingway's Lounge, MyStudio, Playhouse, Roxbury Hollywood, Sayer's Club, and Spare Room. For the locations of these venues and more, visit www.hollywoodbid.org or www.hollywoodhq.us. To follow the latest happenings in Hollywood, "like" HollywoodHQ on Facebook.
We hope this helps you in your quest for the ultimate night out. Remember, dress well, be nice, do your homework...and you'll have a great time!
