LONDON 17/02/2016 Epic Tomato, the tailor-made adventure outfitter part of the Black Tomato Group have launched a unique, brand new product series called Epic On Set. This series of five thrilling adventures, curated by Epic Tomato's expert operations team have been inspired by our favourite action Blockbusters that have been nominated for Oscars this year, and the incredible remote locations that they've been shot in around the world. We're giving clients the chance to embark on challenging journeys and expeditions across the globe, where with our team of guides they'll be able to explore the incredible landscapes that have set the scene for some of cinema's greatest action sequences.

Epic Tomato's Epic on Set

There's nothing quite like watching an epic blockbuster to ignite our sense of adventure and open our eyes to incredible, unknown landscapes that inspire us to explore and test our limits. Last year Black Tomato looked at the backdrops to some of our most loved box sets with our campaign Set Jetting, and this year we decided to look at some our favourite adrenaline-packed 2016 Oscar nominated films that were shot in some of the world's most inhospitable corners.

“When looking at this year's 88th Academy Awards we noticed a focus towards large scale productions where locations and landscapes are emphasized and are integral to the plot. The particular journeys and films we've focused on are in some of the world's most remote and hostile locations. The cast and crews of the films would have had to endure scorching deserts to freezing temperatures as well as being out in the wilderness miles away from civilization, elements that are key to any Epic Tomato adventure”, says Tom Marchant co-founder Epic Tomato and Black Tomato.

To celebrate these epic showcasing of landscapes we've curated a series of strenuous expeditions to challenge and inspire, where guests will traverse mountains, valleys and glaciers that have acted as the back-drop to some of the most gripping cinematic sequences that have graced the silver screen over the past year. Think trekking for great lengths across the desert of Wadi Rum, which set the scene for Mars in The Martian, or head out on a fast-paced husky-sled expedition in The Yukon and experience the incredible, and now iconic, landscapes from The Revenant. Please see here for more information on the specific journeys.

  • The Revenant, Nominated for Best Picture shot in Argentinan Patagonia and The Yukon
  • Mad Max – Nominated for Best Picture shot in Namibia
  • Star Wars – Nominated for Best Visual Effects shot in Iceland
  • The Martian – Nominated for Best Picture shot in Jordan

Tom Marchant, Co-founder of Black Tomato and Epic Tomato says “People have been religiously following the Oscars for decades. More so now than ever, it's impossible not to get caught up in the academy whirlwind, the reviews, and the predictions. However, more recently our attention has been caught by the locations, sometimes more than the plot or who will actually win. With the emergence of even higher-budget productions and imagination, the film industry is combining the green screen and what earth naturally has to offer. The beautiful, unusual and sometimes unexpected backdrops of these films are an exciting and inspiring element.” Tom Marchant, co-founder Black Tomato
