In a new campaign to help travel agents showcase great value destinations to their customers, Newmarket Holidays is highlighting countries where sterling has skyrocketed over the past 12 months.
Egypt tops the list, with the value of the British pound up by a massive 63% on the Egyptian pound, providing a sizeable on-location spending boost to hard-pressed Brits.
At the opposite end of the continent, South Africa has seen the value of the pound leap by just over 24% since May 2022, boosting the spending power of British travellers on safari, and in Kenya, sterling is up by 16% on the Kenyan shilling.
There's a similar rise in Norway, with sterling soaring by more than 17% against the Norwegian krone in the past 12 months. In Iceland, the pound has grown by over 8% against the krona.
India and Canada are two long-haul favourites where the British currency is worth more than last year, with sterling's value rising by around 5% in both.
Richard Forde, Head of Trade Sales said: "We want to help agents capitalise on consumers seeking great value for money, in terms of the price they pay but also knowing their money will be well spent whilst they are away.
"There are some brilliant destinations where the value of sterling has shot up over the past 12 months, so travellers can spend less to get more."
The operator highlights On Safari in South Africa safari as an example of how agents' customers can benefit from sterling's strength. With exchange rate rises over the past 12 months sterling now buys almost 25% more South African Rand, good news for guests who have the option of adding a nighttime safari, tribal evening and excursion through Pilanesberg National Park.
Another example is the 8-day Beautiful Fjords of Western Norway adventure, which costs from £1,052pp with savings of £150pp or more on departures in 2023. A boat ride to Bergen and a Fjord Life excursion are included in the package, with optional tours to mainland Europe's largest glacier and an unforgettable train and boat ride through spectacular scenery made more affordable thanks to the 17% increase in the value of the pound against Norway's krone.
