It's going to be a Sydney Comedy Festival like no other this year, with festival-goers offered a new way of getting to and from shows without having to get out of bed. Festival partner Travelodge Hotels has developed a novel mode of transport, the Ubed, which will pick up festival-goers in central Sydney and deliver them to Comedy Festival gigs. The rickshaw style bike has a full size in-built bed and will take to the streets, providing comfort and relaxation for its passengers, right up to theatre doors. Boring upright transport no more – the Ubed is here!
If a horizontal ride into the city complete with pillow and doona doesn't tick enough boxes, passengers will ensure their chuckle levels are high pre-show with an extra dose of comedy along the way. Up-and-coming Australian comedian Becky Lucas will join passengers for the ride, delivering bedside jokes to get the laughter endorphins pumping ahead of the main event.
“Lie-down comedy is basically the new stand-up,” said Becky. “The Ubed is the perfect way to get guests and myself warmed up pre-gig. It's a hybrid of travel, comedy and comfort – what more could you want.”
Travelodge Hotels offer great accommodation and a relaxed feel with all the essential comforts to explore what a city has to offer. With Ubed, they're quite literally giving their own slogan a “road test”.
Passengers can travel two abreast, while enjoying their journey through the city. Lie-Down Comedy as a new genre, now has an innovative combination of joke telling, transport and horizontal comfort. Naps are encouraged and selfie sticks are provided. Pyjamas are not included. Sydney Comedy Festival ticketholders can book their Ubed journey here. Places are limited so reserve a spot now!
Comedy lovers can also get a taste of the action at Travelodge Hotel Sydney's own pop-up, where Sydney Comedy Festival acts will make special appearances on Monday nights from 30 April to 14 May: Andrew Maxwell, Al Del Bene, Becky Lucas, David Quirk, Ciaran Lyons and David Smiedt. Book here.
