New Travel-Writing Workshop To Be Led By Commissioning Travel Editor For National Newspaper
The first travel-writing course designed and led by a commissioning national newspaper travel editor will launch in February 2010. The day workshop, titled How to Write and Sell Travel Articles, will be led by Kate Simon, Travel Editor of the Independent on Sunday. The new travel journalism workshop will focus on the art of writing and selling travel features to magazines and newspapers. It will appeal to anyone interested in discovering if they've got what it takes to turn their travels into paid work including aspiring journalists and writers, journalists working in other subject areas, and specialists in alternative fields of communication such as PR.
Kate has tutored on travel writing for the past four years but this is the first workshop she has exclusively designed and led. Using a mix of expert advice, in-depth discussion and practical exercises, participants will learn how to identify possible markets and trends, how to pitch and approach commissioning editors, how to write successful travel features, and how to sustain a career in travel journalism. Groups will be limited to a maximum of 12.
The first workshop will be held at Friends Meeting House in Central London, 9.30-4.30pm on Saturday 27 February 2010. Price 150, including refreshments and lunch. For more information, email Kate at kate@katesimon.co.uk.
