Ahead of the 2016 America's Cup Race which will be held in Portsmouth, watersports beginners and experts alike can learn to sail on new Olympic-class Laser sailing boats on Lake Maggiore, flanked by the dramatic scenery of this Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, with Hotel Eden Roc, Ascona.
Speedy and fun to sail, Lasers are small single-handed boats that can be operated by one person and present a unique set of challenges to fitness and technique, with sailors 'surfing' the waves in order to go faster downwind.
Lake Maggiore benefits from afternoon thermal winds which create excellent training conditions for both first-time sailors and those looking to improve their skills.
Hotel Eden Roc has had a partnership with sailing school Astronautica for over 35 years and offers a variety of courses, from beginners' taster sessions to professional instruction and preparation for theory and practice sailing licence examinations.
Lessons cost from CHF 100 (Approx. £70) for a one-hour individual session.
