With the Rutland Birdfair due to take place from 19th to 21st August, specialist tour operator Journey Latin America is thrilled to unveil a brand new bird watching holiday in Peru.

The new 12-day PERU BIRDLIFE: MACHU PICCHU TO PRISTINE AMAZON is a unique bird-focussed holiday that starts in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, home to magnificent birds of prey, white-capped dippers and torrent ducks. The journey then continues by train to Aguas Calientes where guests can wander through hummingbird-filled cloud forest below the 'lost' city of Machu Picchu. With time to discover the enchanting town of Cusco, the next stop is the remote Amazonian Manú National Park, which boasts one of the highest levels of biodiversity of any reserve in the world. Highlights include razor-billed curassow, cock-of-the-rock, and close-up views of macaws, parrots, and parakeets at a nearby clay-lick. There will also be an opportunity to get hands-on with an inspirational project to protect the endangered blue-headed macaw.

The holiday costs is £1,797 per person and includes domestic flights, simple to mid-range accommodation, breakfast, full board in the Amazon, excursions and transfers. International flights are extra.

In order to highlight other award-winning holidays with a strong element of bird watching, Journey Latin America has launched a new Bird Watching section on their website, journeylatinamerica.co.uk.

Ends.

Notes to editors:

Peru is home to over 1,800 species of birds (120 endemic to Peru).
