Cox & Kings Announces Sudan as a Brand New Destination in Its 2017 Africa Brochure
London – 13 September 2016
With a comprehensive range of tours across Africa, Cox & Kings has launched its 2017 brochure, which features the new destination of Sudan, a solo travellers' tour to South Africa and suggested combined country itineraries to Botswana and Zimbabwe, Kenya and Zanzibar – plus group tours and tailor-made travel ideas to Namibia, Madagascar, Rwanda and Mauritius.
Cox & Kings' Africa product manager, Louise Stanion, says: “Sudan is an incredibly exciting destination, and we are thrilled to offer group and private tours to the country. We're expecting strong interest in the destination as it offers a distinct culture and history to the rest of Africa. We're also pleased to launch our Africa programme for 2017 with a continuation of luxury offerings to the continent, plus new suggested itineraries which combine diverse wildlife areas for a range of experiences.”
SUDAN: Technically the youngest country in the world, the history of Sudan stretches back thousands of years. Possessing more pyramids within its borders than Egypt, Sudan features incredible desert scenes, a fascinating culture and spectacular ancient ruins.
The Treasures of Ancient Nubia is an 11-day / 8-night group and private tour, starting from £2,945 per person. The tour begins in the capital of Khartoum, with an introduction to its local museums and fascinating Sudanese culture including a visit to the Whirling Dervishes. Performed every Friday, the dervishes are encircled by the audience, who dance to the beat of percussive instruments and watch as the dervishes spin themselves into a trance. The next stop is the ancient capital of the Christian Kingdom, Old Dongola, home to granite columns scattered in the red desert sands. Travellers can choose to climb the Unesco World Heritage Site of Jebel Barkal for a divine view of Napata, an ancient burial ground with crumbling temples and pyramids. Perhaps the most spectacular inclusion on the itinerary is the necropolis of Meroe, capital of the Kingdom of Kush, with hundreds of royal burial temples set by the banks of the Nile. The itinerary finishes back in Khartoum with a boat ride to the confluence of the Nile, and seats ringside for a Nubian wrestling bout. The tour also includes a special departure on 13th April 2017 on which there is no single supplement for solo travellers.
Cox & Kings is also offering a Sudan extension on its Ethiopian Odyssey group tour priced from £2,195.
SOLO TRAVELLERS: With growing interest in escorted group tours for single travellers, Cox & Kings is launching Splendours of South Africa, a new 13-day / 10-night Solo Travellers tour priced from £3,395 per person. Beginning in Port Elizabeth, travellers take a Big Five wildlife safari in the Amakhala Private reserve before heading Knysna for a relaxing afternoon cruise. The itinerary visits a working ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn before taking scenic roads on the famous Garden Route to Stellenbosch. Travellers spend time in the beautiful vineyards and Dutch Homesteads before ending their tour in cosmopolitan Cape Town. Pricing includes twin/double rooms for single use, welcome and farewell dinners, and a range of activities.
COMBINED COUNTRIES: Cox & Kings have created some new suggested itineraries, combining a variety of countries and national parks to ensure a wide-range of experiences for travellers.
A Journey from Botswana to Zimbabwe is a 12 day / 9 night tour priced from £3,945 and includes a taste of wildlife viewing in both countries, staying in characterful accommodation. Travellers experience water-based activities in Chobe national park in Botswana before crossing over to the Hwange, the largest national park in Zimbabwe. Staying in both the north and the south of the park, travellers can expect to see a variety of wildlife including elephants, wild dog, cheetah, lion and Sable antelope. The itinerary ends with a visit to the impressive Victoria Falls.
The 14 day / 12 night Wings over Kenya and Zanzibar combines and contrasts the Samburu and Masai Mara reserves with the beaches of Zanzibar. The itinerary begins in Nairobi before heading to Samburu where lesser-known wildlife like the blue-legged ostrich, Grevy's zebras and long-necked gerenuks can be spotted. Travellers then safari in the Masai Mara to find more mainstream, but no less exciting species including lions, leopards, zebra and wildebeest. The tour ends in a relaxed and intimate beachside resort in Zanzibar. The suggested itinerary is priced from £4,845 per person twin share.
All prices include flights, transfers and guided excursions and accommodation with breakfast daily and other meals as specified.

NOTE TO EDITORS
Cox & Kings is the world's longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company's fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.
Today, built on the high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century, the company continues to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor-made travel in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.
