PRESS RELEASE – Media

New media category added to the Thailand Green Excellence Awards UK 2016

The Thailand Green Excellence Awards UK create a platform where organisations and individuals can be recognised for their valuable contribution to protecting the iconic heritage, wildlife and nature found abundant throughout Thailand.

For 2016 the nomination categories have been broadened in recognition of the increased awareness the awards have generated for eco-travel projects in Thailand. Two new categories have been added: Best Media Coverage of Green Tourism in Thailand and Outstanding Contribution to Green Tourism in Thailand, bringing the total number of categories up to five:

  • Nature, marine & heritage
  • Community-based tourism
  • Animal welfare
  • Outstanding Contribution to Green Tourism in Thailand
  • Best Media Coverage of Green Tourism in Thailand

The new categories open up the nominations for the first time to journalists, bloggers, publications and website owners – the influencers who are so important in spreading the word further about the awards and the good causes they support.

The awards are run on behalf of the Tourism Authority of Thailand by Wanderlust Travel Media. Chair of judges for the awards and co-founder of Wanderlust travel magazine Lyn Hughes said 'In what is now the fifth consecutive year we have helped run the awards, we wanted to acknowledge the support the media has given in promoting both the awards themselves, and the specific travel projects which are directly improving sustainable tourism in Thailand – these additional awards help do just that.'

Through the diverse eco-travel initiatives established in Thailand there are now vast opportunities for tourists to enjoy a greener visit whilst minimising their footprint as they traverse the country.

By adding a Thailand Green Excellence Award-winning experience to their travel itineraries, visitors can not only leave the crowds behind but also give a little something back to the communities they visit.

The public, media owners, travel writers and the travel trade are encouraged to nominate eco-initiatives they have first-hand experience of on the Green Thailand website www.greenthailand.co.uk. The site also hosts an array of interesting content about eco-travel opportunities within Thailand, plus there's a chance to win an amazing trip for two to Thailand to experience some of the previous award winner's projects.

Nominations close on 31 August 2016.
