A nationwide survey* conducted by Inntravel, known for their Slow breaks in the most beautiful unspoiled parts of Europe and beyond, shows that the art of holidaying as we know it has taken a turn for the worse, with Brits unable to escape their daily routine while away. Nearly a third of respondents admit to thinking about work and checking their work emails when on holiday and a staggering75% of them feel they need a holiday to recover from the holiday that they have just had.
With the long winter and on-going recession, Britons should be eager to make the most of their time away. Yet this new research shows the nation has forgotten how to relax and how to succumb to the freedom that holidays offer. The new report commissioned by Inntravel reveals that despite 63% of Brits believing that getting away from their daily routine is the real highlight of a holiday, nearly one third (30%) find it impossible to truly ‘escape’ when away. It doesn’t help that instead of winding down slowly before the holiday, six out of 10 Brits leave home feeling stressed.
Taking time off with Inntravel gives consumers the opportunity to slow down and experience the simple pleasures of a holiday, whether exploring off the beaten track or immersing themselves in the local culture. However, nearly a third (32%) of Brits admit to never having experienced the authentic side of a holiday destination and almost half (46%) don’t attempt to learn the local lingo. Perhaps it is not surprising, therefore, that over half of respondents (51%) have yet recreate a local dish at home that they first tasted on a trip away.
Commenting on the poll results, Karl Watson, general manager, Inntravel, said, “There’s so much more to a holiday than fly and flop by the pool or beach, or racing from one city to the next. As a Slow holiday specialist, we would like to see travellers falling in love with holidays once again by seeing more, discovering more and experiencing more. On an Inntravel holiday, customers travel at their own pace, exploring quiet paths and immersing themselves in the local culture, and come home totally re-energised.”
Inntravel offers a unique range of holidays, mostly to beautiful European regions, and the widest choice of ways to discover them, from rural hideaways and country cottages to walking, cycling, skiing and touring (either by train or car). Short breaks – three or four-night versions of their most popular walking, cycling and snow holidays – are ideal for those who can only get away for a few days, and there are family activity holidays on offer too.
