In a few weeks, the French mountain resorts will open their doors, ready to welcome the first snow-enthusiasts of the 2019/2020 winter season. And nothing completes a winter holiday like the right accommodation for that perfect night's sleep. And that is regardless if you are looking for a touch of luxury, want something fro the family, looking for the cosy mountain experience or skiing on a budget. We have collected some of the best new openings for this coming winter. And for good measure, we are throwing in some of the top choices for where to refuel in the best new restaurants.
COSY ACCOMMODATIONS
The 5 stars
The five-star Le Mademoiselle in Val d'Isère opens on the 19th of December. Its architecture is inspired by a medieval castle, revealing luxurious intimacy on a large scale with wrought wooden staircases, fireplaces, beamed ceilings, yet still seamlessly blending modernity with tradition throughout. It will be home to 41 lodgings including 11 suites and 5 private apartments complete with its own butler. After a long day on the slopes relax in the ski room lounge, the cinema or in the 1,207m2 large Guerlain spa.
Just 45kms away, in Meribel, Le Coucou is a new five-star hotel with a unique contemporary alpine style, designed by Pierre Yovanovitch. The minimalism decoration is reflected in the 55 bedrooms including 39 suites and 2 private chalets as well as in its sumptuous spa with an indoor and outdoor pool with a stunning view on the white summits.
The Family-friendly
The new Club Med in Alpe d'Huez joins the list of 'Family Plus' hotels in the French mountains. The resort has 442 rooms including deluxe rooms and suites. Parents can rest assured that their kids will have fun whilst be in the safe hands of the Club Med childcare services, (starting from 4 months – 17 years). Entirely family-friendly, the hotel has an indoor pool and a 'happy lounge' with a playground and climbing walls for some after skiing family-fun.
The wellness retreat
L'Auberge Nordique in Le Grand Bornand is a wellness-devoted place. This three-star authentic lodge focuses on the wellness culture with a 'hygge' area including a salt cave room. L'auberge Nordique offers yoga sessions, Nordic activities and re-energising detox retreats.
The cheap and eco-friendly
Exit the old fashion cheap hostel, enter the Base Camp Lodge in Bourg Saint Maurice Les Arcs. It is a new hotel concept combining value and premium rooms along with dormitories in the cool contemporary decor. The hotel has a zero plastic policy, aims to use locally sourced products, use bed linen which has been sustainable certified and also maintained and cleaned by on-site staff also living at the hotel in an attempt to reduce the carbon footprint of transport.

The wine & cheese pairing
In La Clusaz Le Coeur du Village restaurant reopens with new décor and a new “wine and cheese” concept, focusing on the match made in heaven: Platters of cheese pair with delicious wine. Le Coeur du Village works with the renowned artisan cheesemonger Alain Michel and stores its cheeses in a dedicated cellar in the restaurant. Step into the world of cheese and choose your favourite ones.
The late entertainment-dinner
The latest La Folie Douce will open at Arc 1800, accessible by gondola, ski or foot, la Folie Douce and its 3 restaurants La Fruitiere, la Petite cuisine and le butcher are an experience in itself. Led by choreographer Sergey Novikov, the Folie Douce's artists will put on an amazing open-air show before a clubbing session ending at 5 pm, right on time for a dinner made by Chef Frank Mischler.
