What: Puglia's Hottest New Boutique Hotel
Where: Masseria Trapana, Puglia, Italy
Why go: This gorgeous new Italian gem located just outside of Lecce is scheduled to open on Easter weekend, offering guests a luxury escape in this sun-drenched corner of southern Italy. Owner Rob Potter-Sanders has spent the last few years lovingly renovating the 16th Century country farmhouse, uncovering frescoes and historical treasures along the way which have all been stylishly incorporated into the design.
The masseria boasts just nine stylish suites set amongst six gardens, a pool and Bijou Chapel. Taking inspiration from Rob's travels to Thailand and Bali, many of the suites will have their own outdoor bathtub and private courtyard. The hotel's interiors have been designed combing high quality local materials with elegant and seamless design, offering a spacious and luxurious retreat for guests. Rob has meticulously handpicked all soft furnishings from around the world, from the vibrant Moroccan cushions that adorn the sunken seating area in the garden to the custom, handmade iron beds in each of the nine suites.
The authentic tufa and golden Pietra Leccese stone building is set in 60 hectares of lush gardens featuring 19 variations of fruit and nut trees, including lemon, blood orange, pomegranate, walnut, cherry and mandarin. Resident Chef Maria Carla will incorporate the fresh homegrown produce with seasonal local ingredients to create her delicious 'Cucina Povera' – the food Puglia is famous for.
'Cucina Povera' cookery masterclasses and dedicated yoga weeks will be introduced later on in the year.
