A new magazine-style website has been launched by the Regional Agency for Tourism Promotion "In Liguria". The “Beyond the Riviera” site showcases eight different perspectives on the destination, offering an alternative and immersive guide to the northern Italian region.
This website follows a new mobile app which was launched in May 2015. The aim of both platforms is to promote more of the region to UK visitors, attracting tourists to areas outside of the beaches and Riviera townships that most people visit.
The eight categories focused on throughout the site include agro food, arts & history, handicrafts, excellences, food & wine, hiking, markets & festivals and wonders of nature.
Within these themes, the website lists different routes and destinations that can be further researched through the app, allowing tourists to delve deeper into the region depending on their specific interests.
On the handicrafts page, visitors are invited to explore the woodwork sculptures of The Tigullio Hinterland or watch the local glass-blowing skills in Altare, a small village 45km west of Genoa. Foodie travellers will take great pleasure in the Agro food section, which provides information on organic meat farming in the Genoese Apennines and where to find the golden olive oil and chestnuts from the Savona Valley area.
One of the key focuses for the website is the 'Tours of Excellence' that can be discovered in Liguria. These are the four unique areas that the region is keen to promote including horticulture and floriculture, olive growing, wine production, fish & seafood.
Ligurian farmers have been cultivating the land for over 2,000 years and the region now has 677 olive growers and 740 million olive trees - a trip to an olive oil farm is a direct path to the heart of the area. Seafood is also in the lifeblood of Liguria and tourists will find special dishes in every fishing village visited along the coastline.
