Grin Creative has today announced the new appointment as it excitedly eyes green shoots in the travel industry, both domestically and internationally.
Jeremy replaces long-serving and much-loved editor Carrie Hutchinson, who has helmed one of Australia's most popular travel magazines and websites for the past two-and-a-half years.
While Carrie is handing over the editorship to Jeremy she will remain with Grin working across a number of exciting new projects.
"Carrie's reputation is second to none,” says get lost publisher and Grin Creative founder Justin Jamieson. “She has navigated the publication through unprecedented times and we are thankful for her hard work over the years. While we'll miss her on the get lost side of things, we're very lucky to have her helping us on other projects."
Jeremy Drake, who will start his first week on a tall ship sailing adventure exploring Tasmania's south coast, is one of the most exciting emerging travel writers and photographers in Australia where he was recently a finalist for three awards with the Australian Society of Travel Writers, including Best Travel Photograph, Best Instagram Photograph and Australian Travel Photographer of the Year.
Jeremy started his career as a cadet journalist with News Corporation in Sydney before travelling the world and moving to the UK. Prior to his full time freelance travel work, he also spent nearly a decade working in content agencies between Australia and Europe.
“I'm so excited to be joining the get lost team where I see so much potential and opportunity across all of the magazine's channels as travel starts to return,” says Drake. “get lost prides itself on telling the stories of our favourite destinations a little differently and it is one of the few travel media companies that truly knows its place when it comes to showcasing these unique experiences.
“I've been fortunate to travel around the world, including to remote Papua New Guinean villages and banshee haunted lighthouses on the most northern tip of Ireland, writing and shooting for get lost.
“As the new editor, I want to continue helping our readers find inspiration through get lost but also start to discover new travel creators here in Australia and abroad to help get us all excited about getting lost again.”
“We're very excited to have Jez taking over the reins of get lost,” says Jamieson. “He brings a sense of enthusiasm and a new dynamic to the brand and how we see it evolving.”
Leah Glynn will continue as deputy editor of get lost, as well as heading up a new publication to be launched in quarter one.
