New Curated Collection of Luxury Family Hotels

Travel Unwrapped

A new travel company offering a curated collection of luxury hotels specifically for families launches today (26 October 2015).  Travel Unwrapped (www.travel-unwrapped.com) has hand-picked over 400 luxury hotels across the UK and Europe, which they feel offer exceptional touches to make families welcome without compromising on style and service.

They have also created a number of bespoke exclusive benefits for families and at many of their hotels, Travel Unwrapped's customers will get early check in, late check out, and room upgrades subject to availability as well as milk and cookies at turndown.

Here are some of the extra benefits that Travel Unwrapped have selected for children:

  • 5-course Michelin starred tasting menus for kids, exclusively for Travel Unwrapped guests.  For example, at Das Stue in Berlin the tasting menu offers children's tapas from destinations around the world paired with juice from Riesling grapes, and Wagyu beef with a garden of vegetables paired with Dornfelder red grape juice.  Prices start from £250 per night for a junior suite, sleeping two adults and one child and between £35 and £70 for a children's tasting menu, depending on which menu is ordered.
  • Turn a hotel stay into an adventure by sleeping under canvas at The Dorchester.  Travel Unwrapped's smaller customers can glamp in their parents' room with a bespoke tent over their pull out bed.  Rooms start from £505 per night for a deluxe king room sleeping two adults and one child.
  • Toddlers staying at the St Nicholas Bay Hotel & Spa in Crete can have a high tea on the beach, which will be set up with a mini table laid out with a selection of mezze for children to pick at.  These will include Lebanese pitta roll with fish fillet or fried chicken, rice sushi roll with avocado and cucumber, mini choux filled with ham and cheese mousse, fresh fruit juice and tropical milk shakes. Prices are £17 (Euros 25) per head and parents can also join in for the same price. Rooms at St Nicholas Bay start from £325 for a family room sleeping two adults and two children.
  • Join the pastry chef for a complimentary lesson in the kitchens at the Grand Hotel du Palais Royal in Paris.  Prices start from £535 for a junior suite, sleeping two adults and one child.
  • Play 'gardener for the day' watering the plants and then picking tomatoes and vegetables before learning how to cook up lunch in the kitchens at The Marbella Club in Spain. A junior two-bedroom suite, for two adults and two children starts from £910 per night plus £50 per day for the children's activities.
  • Meet the gelato maker and try crazy ice cream tasting in the main square of Portofino when staying at Hotel Splendido in Italy.  Rooms start from £1,099 for a superior junior suite, sleeping two adults, and two children (one rollaway bed and one cot.)

Travel Unwrapped has been founded by Rebecca Fielding and Andrew Binks.  Says Rebecca Fielding: “When our son was born we struggled to find a company offering a collection of luxury hotels, which suited us as a couple but which also went above and beyond to welcome children and babies.  We identified a gap in the market and it has taken nearly two years to find places that actually deliver the promise of a luxury family experience and which go out of their way to welcome their young guests.  We've negotiated a wide range of exciting and creative extras for children to make the holidays more fun and less stressful for the whole family.”

The collection of hotels is split into three categories – City Chic, Country Escape and Coastal Retreat.  Or you can search by experience:

Honey-with-the-kids-moon – a range of hotels, which offer trusted babysitting, day crèche facilities or inspiring kids' clubs, as well as 1,000 thread count sheets and a good restaurant for a romantic honeymoon with the kids.   For example the Daios Cove in Crete has a dedicated honeymoon coordinator, as well as dedicated kids' care facilities and the privacy of one bedroom villas with pools.  Rooms start from £220 per night for two adults and one child.

Beard & Bump – a selection of the best getaways before the baby arrives.  This portfolio of hotels offers a range of extras for the mum-to-be such as spas with dedicated pregnancy treatments and tasting menus adapted for a pregnancy diet.  Alexander House in Sussex has a range of specialist pregnancy massages, an exceptional non-alcoholic cocktail list and a restaurant that not only caters for pregnancy nutrition, but cravings too!  Rooms start from £145 per night for a standard double room and £775 per night for the garden master suite, which can accommodate up to two adults and two children.

Family Luxe – the largest range of carefully picked hotels, which meet the needs of their youngest guests without compromising on luxurious touches for the parents.   At Giardino Mountain in St Moritz, teenagers can join the freestyle academy, while younger children can dine in their own restaurant giving parents the opportunity to slip away to the two Michelin star restaurant, Ecco.  Prices start from £365 per room per night sleeping two adults and one child.

Grand Family Luxe - hotels suited to wider family gatherings, where everyone is well looked after without feeling like a 'group' booking. Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Sweden has a villa, which sleeps 16 comfortably for an unforgettable large family get together.  The villa has a helipad, dedicated chef and is ski in ski out.  Prices start from £3,375 per night, based on 16 sharing.

Travel Unwrapped also features downloadable Unwrapped Guides for many of their destinations, which highlight some of the company's favourite spots for children – from walks for “little footsteps” to the best corner of the park for a lunch-time picnic to the best toy shop – as well as lesser known highlights for the grown ups including unusual views and off the beaten track shops.
