St Austell Brewery

As well as its range of celebrated and award-winning Cornish beers, St Austell Brewery also owns pubs, inns and hotels across the south west. This year, new accommodation will be unveiled at prime waterfront locations in some of Cornwall's most-loved towns and villages.

Here's what's new for 2017:

NEW accommodation at The Chainlocker, Falmouth

Five new rooms will be the highlight of a six-month extensive refurbishment project at this harbour-front south-Cornwall location. Acquired by St Austell Brewery in 2015, The Chainlocker will re-open in mid-July.

Situated in the heart of one of the county's most bustling and exciting towns, The Chainlocker is just a short stroll away from Events Square, the location of Falmouth's most celebrated seafood and music events.

All The Chainlocker's new rooms will boast spectacular uninterrupted views of the busy waterfront. The five rooms will be light and airy; the décor will key into contemporary trends yet maintain the pub's traditional attributes and appeal.

Downstairs will be a new restaurant serving up St Austell Brewery's celebrated coastal pub and kitchen menu. Fresh local oysters will be one of the pub's specialty dishes.

In the main bar, the pub's illustrious maritime history will be celebrated. Salvaged nautical memorabilia dating back to the 1800s will be mixed with modern fixtures and fittings.

Rooms will start from £125 per night, based on two sharing. Bed and breakfast.

Falmouth in five (reasons to visit):

  • Falmouth was named Britain's Best Coastal Community in the 2016 Great British High Street Awards.
  • Access to some of the UK's best sailing waters. Boats, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are all available to hire - or stay dry and visit the National Maritime Museum in the town.
  • It boasts one of Cornwall's best fresh seafood celebrations; Falmouth Oyster Festival takes place 12th-15th October 2017 at Event Square.
  • Miles of coastal paths to explore, creekside villages to visit and attractions to enjoy, Falmouth is an idea base to explore Cornwall.
  • There's a thriving art scene. Falmouth's rich artistic heritage has played an important part in Cornwall's international reputation for the arts. Students from University Falmouth now play their part in keeping the art scene thriving.

NEW B&B accommodation at The Havener's Bar & Grill, Fowey

St Austell Brewery opened The Havener's Bar & Grill in summer 2016. In May this year, five new rooms will open upstairs at the waterside venue.

The cosy rooms will be well-appointed and decorated in calming coastal tones to complement the location. All the rooms will offer views across Fowey's historic quay.

A sleep-four dog-friendly self-catering apartment – which was refurbished last year- also sits alongside the accommodation offering at The Havener's.

Downstairs in the restaurant, there's informal, modern dining options available. Given the venue's unrivalled waterfront location, fresh Cornish seafood takes a leading place on the menu.

The new rooms at The Havener's will start from £120 per night, based on two sharing. Bed and breakfast. The self-catering two-bedroom apartment is available from £540 per week.

Fowey in five (reasons to visit):

  • The town is set in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.' Fowey is a breath-taking estuary town with a vibrant maritime history.
  • Fowey River mussels are freshly plucked from the estuary.
  • The town was home to Daphne Du Maurier. In May this year (6th – 14th) the Fowey Festival of Art & Literature takes place. It's cultural highlight and one of the most significant literary festivals in the country.
  • Like Falmouth, Fowey is a yachting mecca; the estuary's large deep water is a magnet for sailing fans. Fowey Regatta, one of the country's premier sailing events, takes place in August (13th – 19th).
  • 'Secret' beaches to explore nearby – little under a mile from Fowey, Lantic Bay boasts a white sandy beach flanked by shingle. It's a 20-minute walk from the nearest carpark and a real hidden gem.

NEW to the collection: The Pier House Hotel & Restaurant, Charlestown

The historic harbour-front property was added to St Austell Brewery's estate in late 2016; this will be The Pier House's first season as part of St Austell Brewery's collection of hotels and inns.

Situated at the water's edge in Charlestown's World Heritage Status protected Georgian port, most of the hotel's 27 rooms have sea views across St Austell Bay.

A changing, seasonal menu is available in the celebrated A La Carte restaurant at The Pier House. For more relaxed dining, the adjacent Harbourside Inn serves up a mix of wholesome pub classics. The bar is well-stocked with St Austell Brewery's award-winning range of Cornish beers, including Tribute, Korev and Proper Job.

Charlestown is a beautiful conserved Georgian harbour complete with a small collection of tall ships. Interest is set to reignite when series three of Poldark airs on BBC One in the spring; the historic fishing village is used in scenes in the popular series.

The Pier House is also just three miles away from the brewery home. Visitors can find out more about one of Cornwall's oldest businesses at St Austell Brewery's interactive brewing experience.

Stay at The Pier House Hotel from £125 per night, based on two sharing. Bed and breakfast. For more information, visit www.westcountryinns.co.uk or call 0345 2411133.

St Austell Brewery's interactive brewing experience is open 9am-5.30pm. £12; entry includes beer sampling, www.staustellbrewery.co.uk.
