New Churchill Experiences for 2017

Travel Manitoba

Manitoba's leading Churchill tour operators have developed new experiences for 2017

Family-Friendly Adventures

Frontiers North Adventures is launching family-focused adventures to Churchill, Manitoba, during July, August and October. This will make it possible for family travellers, who are looking for an experience that will suit all ages, to enjoy the beluga whale and polar bear capital of the world! The tours are fun and educational journeys in Canada's North, creating lifetime memories for the entire family.

On the tours, there is a variety of family activities including a six hour Tundra Buggy Adventure in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, which is home to the world's most accessible population of polar bears. Whilst in October and November, the polar bears will come close to the vehicle, during the summer, Tundra Buggy outings are more about viewing the tundra, flowers and wildlife such as foxes, hares and birds. Guests may however still see polar bears at a far distance along the coastline.  Another exciting activity is either dog-carting during the summer months or dog-sledding during winter. However, in addition to these exciting adventures there are also educational activities especially programmed for children. Younger adventurers are given the opportunity to learn about the wildlife, culture and people of the North with programme by Parks Canada and the Canadian Junior Ranger. Moreover they can become citizen scientists with experts from Polar Bears International.

The Family Adventures are focused on children 12 and under, but they also include elements that are appealing for any age.

Churchill Wild and Polar bears on two vastly different landscapes

Churchill Wild is offering a Dual Lodge Safari experience during summer and autumn 2017 at their Seal River Heritage Lodge and Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge. This ten-day Safari is a great opportunity to experience two of Churchill Wild's world-class wilderness lodges, each unique in design, surrounding ecosystem and style of wildlife viewing.

Seal River Heritage Lodge is located a 30-minute bush plane flight north of Churchill on the tundra, while Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge is a 1-hour bush plane flight south of Churchill in the Hudson Bay Lowlands, but both lodges are ideally located on the “polar bear highway” where the bears migrate around the Hudson Bay.  The summer dual lodge experiences includes a day in Churchill to see the Beluga whales which gather here each year.

Participants are guided by professional guides while daily exploring the sub-arctic landscape on foot. During the Safari, polar bears are not the only mesmerizing wildlife one will come across. The Safari is enhanced by the possibility of seeing Beluga whales, black bears, wolves, northern lights and much more.

Manitoba is wild and breathtaking with 100,000 lakes and vast tracts of tundra, prairie, and boreal forest.  Adventurous, yet luxurious, experiences such as walking with polar bears or swimming with beluga whales take place along 400 kilometres of ocean coastline along the Hudson Bay.  Manitoba's capital city of Winnipeg is experiencing a renaissance with a world-class museum, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights; an arctic exhibit that showcases orphaned polar bears swimming overhead in a see-through tunnel; a hopping culinary scene, including winter pop-ups; and festivals year-round.
