Hastings & 1066 Country Marketing

During the year that Hastings & 1066 Country commemorate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, in addition to a packed programme of exciting events a number of significant openings are set to tempt visitors down to the beautiful Sussex coast and countryside.

  • Hastings pier re opens March 2016

  • The Source, Hastings, Europe's biggest underground skate and BMX park.

  • Classroom on the Coast, Hastings

The Source, Skate Park – opens Hastings, January 2016, to skateboarders and BMX riders.

This is the tale of two brothers, Marc and Rich Moore, (who grew up in Bexhill, down the road from Hastings) and who are turning the old White Rock Baths in Hastings into a world-class skate park, and is being held up as an example for seaside towns everywhere.

The Source Park will include a main skate park, a small beginners' skate park plaza, a retail store, café, reception and outdoor ramps and will have room for 600 standing spectators, who'll create an intense close-up velodrome atmosphere at events.  Coaching programmes for children will also be on offer. Early estimates suggest it is set to bring in £2.8 million of new economic activity to Hastings.

The Moores are planning to host at least one international-standard event per year at the site. From their humble beginnings of their first Source shop back in 2003 in Bexhill, the two brothers have all the contacts from rock-star riders to sponsors, so there's every chance of this happening.

Hastings Pier – reopens 21 March 2016 for Easter holidays, with Gala opening mid May 2016

With the help of £11.4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the pier is turning into what has been hailed “as the coolest-looking pier in the world”. Once back in service, it will host circuses, plays, concerts, film festivals, farmers' markets, urban sports and more. It is expected to attract 325,000 visitors in the first year and contribute £1.2 million to the local economy. http://www.hpcharity.co.uk/

The world's first seafood school on the landing beach of a small boat fishery. Follow the fish from boat to plate; meet our fishermen some of whom say they can trace their ancestors back to the Norman conquest; whole day, half day, or evening classes cover topics such as 'fish on a budget' and parent and child classes. Part cookery class, part lunch/supper club, an unmissable experience. Interested journalists are welcome to come down to discover this picturesque part of the Hastings story and book onto any of the courses being held January – March 2016.
